Alabama Teacher Denied Sentence Reduction - Updated

(Houston County, Alabama)

Carrie Smith Perkins, 31, had sought to have two seven year sentences, one each for rape and sodomy, run concurrently.

Circuit Judge Butch Binford ordered the prison terms be served consecutively when he sentenced Perkins in 2011. That means one sentence must be completed before the other one begins. Had Binford agreed, the two terms could be served at the same time and Perkins released from prison earlier.

During a hearing held December 12 Perkins said she is "truly sorry" for crimes committed. She admitted to transporting the teen to Dothan where they checked into a hotel room and had sex during the time she was a 5th grade teacher at Parkview Christian School.

Additionally, Perkins pleaded guilty to having sex with the same boy in Barbour County and was ordered to serve three years in prison. An additional 12 years was suspended by Circuit Judge Bernard Smithart.

So, Perkins will serve her full sentence of 14 years in prison.

(Eufaula, Alabama) For her convictions on counts of sodomy and rape of a 15-year-old student, Carrie Smith Perkins, 29, was sentenced today by Houston County Circuit Court Judge Butch Binford to 14 years in prison with no probation.

Perkins sobbed noticeably as she was cuffed and taken away.

Alabama Teacher Guilty in Sex Case - Updated

(Eufaula, Alabama) Earlier today, 29-year-old teacher Carrie Perkins was convicted by a jury of second-degree sodomy and second-degree rape of 15-year-old boy.

According to Assistant Houston County District Attorney Banks Smith,

“We argued this was just the ultimate violation of trust,” Smith said. “Because you select a Christian school to put your child in, and then you find out somebody commits this gross violation of trust in committing these crimes.”

Smith said Perkins was the boy’s seventh-grade science teacher at Parkview Christian School in Eufaula and most recently taught the victim’s younger brother. Smith said the victim was in the ninth grade at the time of the offenses in May 2010. He said there are also several similar pending sexual assault charges out of Eufaula.

Sentencing has been scheduled for February 23 when Perkins faces two to 20 years in prison for each conviction.

Alabama Teacher Accused of Sex with Boy

(Eufaula, Alabama) A 29-year-old fifth-grade teacher at Parkview Christian School, Carrie Frances Perkins, was arrested Monday for allegedly engaging in a five-month sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student.

Perkins faces multiple counts of rape and sodomy.

According to a Eufaula Police Department incident report, the student stated that he and Perkins have had sexual relations approximately four or five times since the start of the year.

The student also told police that the first incident occurred inside a classroom while other incidents took place inside the city limits and also in another city, according to the report.

Chief Police Investigator Ronnie Dollar said Thursday that there was more than enough “probable cause” to sign warrants.

Perkins was booked into custody. No bail amount was reported.
