HIV-Positive Woman Accused of Prostitution

(St. Louis, Missouri) A 20-year-old southwest St. Louis area woman, Nigaila Gibbs, has been accused of prostituting herself and knowingly infecting numerous men with HIV, the human immunodeficiency virus.

Police indicated that hundreds of victims may have been infected.

Police alleged she has been engaged in prostitution in the city and county for the past several years.

Sgt. Adam Kavanaugh, supervisor of the County Police special investigations unit, said police are issuing the warning as a precaution. "We know she has had multiple clients," Kavanaugh said. "Nobody has said, 'I got AIDs and she's why,' but there obviously is a concern."

Anyone who has had sexual encounters with Gibbs should get a checkup soon.

Gibbs was booked into custody at the St. Louis County Jail with bond set at $50,000.
