Carolina Teacher Accused of Sex with Student

(Williamston, North Carolina) A 24-year-old teacher at South Creek Middle School, Sara Leann Dwiggins, was arrested yesterday for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a student.

Dwiggens has been charged with two counts of a sex offense with a student and two counts of statutory rape of a 13, 14 or 15-year-old while the defendant is at least 6 years older.

Deputies began investigating Thursday after receiving a report of a possible inappropriate relationship. Sheriff's officials said Dwiggins is facing two counts per charge in connection with two separate incidents but would not elaborate.

Dwiggens was booked into custody at the Bertie Martin Regional Jail with bond set at $200,000.
