Mystery missile off California coast, 11/8/10
Caught on CBS television video shot from a helicopter, an apparent missile launch 35 miles off the coast of Southern California has authorities and experts baffled. Preliminarily, everyone is speculating.
The Department of Defense claims that the Pentagon doesn't have a clue. The North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, issued a statement jointly with the U.S. Northern Command, or NORTHCOM, saying it wasn't a foreign military launch and it posed no threat to the United States. It's not clear how NORAD can claim it's not a threat when its origin is unknown.
One idea is that the mystery missile was actually a "regular old jet" viewed with an optical illusion.
Other theories include the ideas it was an impromptu spy satellite launch, a submarine nuke missile shot to coincide with Obama's trip to Asia, or just simply that a wrong button was pushed.
In conclusion, the apparent missile launch officially remains a mystery while the Pentagon has officially deemed it not threatening. Unfortunately, the official stance is a contradiction.
"Here, eat this."Heh.
"What is it?"
"I don't know but it won't hurt you."
"So, you don't know what it is but you're sure it won't hurt me."
"Right. Trust me, I work for the Pentagon."
"I'll trust after I verify. Meanwhile, you and the Pentagon can bite me."
By the way, with the shiny nose, maybe the mystery missile should be called Rudolph.
