NY Woman Accused of Beating Stepdaughter

(Rochester, New York) A local woman, Deester "Dee" Gilley, has been accused of laying a severe beating on her 9-year-old stepdaughter.

Gilley allegedly used a belt and extension cord leaving noticeable welts, abrasions and bruises. She faces charges of felony second-degree assault and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.

A city maintenance worker initially saw the girl running down the street.
"She was wearing a red t-shirt and a pair of underwear on a day that was in the 30's temperature wise," Jimmie Junious, 60, wrote in a statement to police.

Junious said the girl was bleeding from her nose, mouth, face and legs. "I noticed that her legs were bruised and busted open and it looked like a bleeding bite mark on her right cheek," he said.

Junious told his dispatch to call 911, and pulled over to ask if the girl was okay. "She said she was afraid," he wrote. "She said 'my mother beat me up,' then said 'I don't want to go back there, please don't take me back."
Gilley was booked into custody and subsequently released on $5,000 bail.
