Semen-Tainted Yogurt Case - Updated
[Previous 7/17/11 post]
(Albuquerque, New Mexico) Regarding the February semen-tainted yogurt case, 32-year-old Anthony Garcia was arrested this week to face federal charges of adulteration of food and making false statements to police.

Garcia appeared in Federal Court on Friday and pleaded not guilty.
Garcia is already out on bond for a state charge of criminal sexual contact with a minor. The judge says Garcia is in violation of his probation because he is not supposed to live with a child, though he admits he lives with his sister and her 14-year-old son on Albuquerque's Westside.

The judge said she considers the former grocery store worker a danger to society.
Garcia is in custody since he's considered a flight risk. If convicted, he faces a possible eight years in prison and a $500,000 fine.

Surprise Yogurt
[Previous 2/10/11 post]
(Albuquerque, New Mexico) A 31-year-old Sunflower Farmers Market employee, Anthony Garcia, has been accused of adulterating yogurt with his semen.

A female shopper with an attentive palate reportedly tasted a sample of the yogurt and determined it was disgusting and it contained semen.

She "spit out the substance numerous times to get the taste out of her mouth" and also wiped her mouth on her sweater. Authorities were alerted.
According to a police report, the female victim, 28, was shopping with her daughter when approached by a “pushy” Garcia, who offered her the yogurt sample.

After tasting it, the woman immediately thought the sample tasted “gross and disgusting” and, cops noted, “said it tasted like ‘semen.’”
Blood and DNA testing confirmed that the yogurt contained biological effluents from Garcia.

According to Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson Trish Hoffman, investigators are currently undecided about whether to file state or federal charges against Garcia. He is being detained on unrelated warrants.

Meanwhile, one must question what the hell is going on in the back room of the dairy department at Sunflower Farmers Market. It would be nice to know that this was an isolated incident rather than common practice by employees of the store.
