Oregon Mom Arrested for Abuse

(Medford, Oregon) A 45-year-old Talent, OR woman, Valery Lee Podsobinski, has been accused of a variety of child abuse and drug offenses.

Podsobinski allegedly beat her two children for years with belts, wooden spoons, spatulas and paddles while feeding them marijuana.

The abuse was discovered by authorities in January, and the 13-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl were removed from Podsobinski's residence and the case was investigated by several agencies, authorities said. The children since have been living at an undisclosed location, police said.

The abuse occurred weekly "and had been ongoing for years," said Oregon State Police Detective Tom Harrison, who investigated the case.

A Jackson County grand jury on Thursday indicted Podsobinski on a dozen charges, eight of which were felonies, court records show.

Podsobinski was booked into custody at the Jackson County Jail and subsequently released on her own recognizance.
