Ohio Teacher Gets Jail in Sex Case - Updated

(Olmsted Township, Ohio) In August 2011, 25-year-old former Olmsted High School teacher Kristin Ostmann pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of aggravated assault.

As a result, Ostmann was sentenced to six months in jail.
Ostmann apologized to the victim in court, saying she was going through personal issues at the time, including the loss of her boyfriend and dog.

But prosecutors, arguing for 18 months behind bars, say Ostmann violated the golden rule: You don't sleep with your students. Despite their both being legal adults, it is illegal for a high school teacher to have a sexual relationship with a student.
The court was probably swayed to reduce the charges because Ostmann had personal issues.
