California Teacher Gets No Jail for Sex with Boy - Update

(Livermore, California)

A former high school math teacher in Livermore was sentenced Tuesday to three years in state prison for molesting a 14-year-old male student but will not serve any more time in custody, authorities said.

Marie Johnson, 42, who taught math at Granada High School, pleaded no contest earlier this year to nine felony charges for molesting the boy from December 2010 to May 2011. She must also register as a sex offender, authorities said.

Johnson was given credit for time she has already spent behind bars and will not be sent to prison, authorities said.

Offhand, I suspect a 40-something male teacher convicted of sex with a 14-year-old girl would have received more serious consequences, possibly a stretch in the big house..

(Livermore, California) Former math teacher at Granada High School, Marie Johnson, 42, pleaded no contest this week to nine counts of engaging in sex with a 14-year-old boy.

[She] entered the plea to an amended complaint at the Hayward Hall of Justice after previously pleading not guilty to the charges a month after her January 2012 arrest.

The amended complaint condenses the original 24 charges into 9. The charges include incidents of sexual intercourse, sex acts in a car and at Granada High School, and a charge of lewd and lascivious conduct for licking the boy's neck after a basketball game.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 15.

(Livermore, California) A 40-year-old teacher at Granada High School, Marie Johnson, has been accused of engaging in sex with a boy under 15 years of age.

Johnson reportedly faces charges of unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under 18, oral copulation and committing a lewd act on a child.

The sexual assaults allegedly occurred numerous times during a six-month period beginning in December 2010 and ending in May 2011. The relationship was initially formed through text messages, Facebook and through instant messaging on the smartphone app "Words with Friends," police said.

Police said the assaults occurred primarily inside Johnson's vehicle and other undisclosed locations in Livermore.

Johnson was booked into custody at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin with bail set at $1.85 million.
