Tuna-Packing Lawsuit

(San Diego, California) Based upon an investigation by the state Department of Food and Agriculture, the canners of Bumble Bee, Chicken of the Sea and Starkist tuna have failed to meet federal standards for the amount of tuna in each can.

As a result of a civil consumer protection action, the companies have agreed to pay $3.3 million.

The settlement will be divvied up among the three counties of San Diego, Marin and Riverside with each getting about $1 million. Additionally, California food banks will be provided with $300,000 worth of canned tuna.

One may wonder how many government workers are employed in the California Tuna Can Inspection Division. I do.
