Delaware Woman Accused of Child Abuse

(Milford, Delaware) A 28-year-old local woman, Malene Fleurentus, has been arrested for allegedly injuring a 5-year-old child.

Fleurentus faces counts of third-degree child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

The incident occurred on Oct. 2 at a residence in the 100 block of N.W. 4th Street when detectives discovered that the suspect, identified as Malene Fleurentus, physically disciplined a 5-year-old female victim for misbehaving and left highly visible injuries on the face of the victim, said Milford Police Department spokesman Det. Dwight Young.

Police were notified when the victim arrived at a school in the Milford School District and school staff observed the injuries, Young said.

Fleurentus was booked and released on a $1,000 bond.
