Virginia Woman Accused of Trying to Poison Her Kids

(Virginia Beach, Virginia) A 26-year-old local mom, Lorita M. Aiken, has been accused of trying to poison her two children, ages 4 and 5.

Aiken faces two counts of alteration of food, drink or drugs and two counts of attempted murder.

Virginia Beach Police spokesperson said Aiken and her two children had received medical attention and were recovering from their injuries after what they called a "suspected poisoning incident." Sgt. Adam Bernstein says investigators believe Aiken tried to poison the children by putting prescription drugs in their food.

"We still don't know exactly why," explained Bernstein. "But, the mother put some sort of prescription medication inside the children's food, resulting in them having to go to the hospital."

Aiken was booked into custody at the Virginia Beach Correctional Facility with no bond.
