Shark Fatality in Hawaii
(Maui, Hawaii)
A kayak fisherman was killed by a shark while fishing off Hawaii — marking the 13th attack in the state since the beginning of the year, officials said.RIP
Patrick Briney, 57, was dangling his foot off the side of his kayak while out with a friend between southern Maui and Molokini, a small island popular for diving and snorkeling — when the shark suddenly chomped his leg Monday.
His pal paddled toward him and tied a tourniquet on Briney’s leg before he flagged down a nearby charter boat, which took them to the shore, authorities said.
Emergency workers at the beach rushed the bleeding Briney to a hospital, but the Stevenson, Wash., man could not be saved.
