Former Smyrna High School math teacher and cross country coach Jennifer Suarez was sentenced Feb. 25 to six months in prison after pleading guilty last year to committing a sexual act with a male student in the high school.Suarez also must register as a sex offender.

(Dover, Delaware) Earlier today, 28-year-old math teacher and cross-country coach formerly at Smyrna High School, Jennifer J. Suarez, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree rape stemming from an incident where she performed oral sex on a 17-year-old boy inside her classroom.
She could face up to 15 years in prison, but there is no minimum mandatory jail term and the presumptive sentence is no more than 30 months behind bars.Sentencing is scheduled for January 2015.

(Smyrna, Delaware] A 37-year-old teacher at Smyrna High School, Jennifer J. Suarez, has been accused of engaging in sex with a 17-year-old male student.
Suarez faces a charge of first-degree sexual abuse of a child by a person of trust.
According to police, Suarez' arrest stemmed from an incident that occurred Feb. 11 when Suarez and the student allegedly had a sexual encounter that took place on school property inside Suarez' classroom. School staffers brought the allegations of misconduct to the attention of Smyrna police officers, which began what they described as a "lengthy investigation."Suarez was booked and released on $20,000 bond.
Smyrna High School's website shows Suarez is a math teacher and has been the head coach of the school's boys and girls cross country team since 2012.
