France Sends Aircraft Carrier to Fight ISIS

French Aircraft Carrier Charles de Gaulle

(Paris, France)
France upped its military involvement in the fight against Isis on Monday by dispatching its aircraft carrier the Charles de Gaulle to the Gulf.

France deployed an aircraft carrier in the Gulf on Monday as part of the US-led military campaign against the Islamic State jihadist group in Iraq, a defence ministry official said.

"The integration of the Charles de Gaulle in the operation... (in Iraq) begins this morning," a member of Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian's staff told AFP as his entourage made its way to the carrier.
Named Operation Chammal, the French effort is in support of the US-led coalition against ISIS.

Notably, the Charles de Gaulle strike group includes an attack submarine, a French anti-aircraft frigate and an anti-submarine frigate.
