Medford woman accused of sexually abusing boy
OR: A Medford woman has been jailed on charges she sexually abused a boy under age 12 and then threatened him in an effort to prevent him from talking about the alleged abuse.
Misty Star Garcia, 39, of the 600 block of Northwoods Drive, has been charged with first-degree sodomy, tampering with a witness and five counts of first-degree sexual abuse.
She pleaded not guilty to all the charges Wednesday in Jackson County Circuit Court. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for March 28 in the case.
Prosecutors allege Garcia sexually abused the boy on or between Feb. 1 and Feb. 28, 2015.
On Feb. 19 of this year, she allegedly attempted to induce him to withhold testimony or offer false testimony by threatening him, according to an indictment.
She was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on March 2 and remains there on $1 million bail, jail records show.
Garcia’s criminal history includes convictions for driving under the influence of intoxicants in 2000, 2006 and 2011, according to court records.
