Dollar Store Report

As a follow-up to a previous entry, a recently published report on Dollar Tree Stores Inc. indicates that the success of dollar stores continues. For the quarter ending May 1st, Dollar Tree reported higher sales and earnings despite flat profit margins. Due to high gasoline prices, all segments of discount retailing are seeing some sluggishness, but, even so, Dollar Tree is growing aggressively.
The company, the largest retailer of its kind, opened 79 stores during the first quarter while expanding or relocating 43. In the second quarter, it expects to open 75 stores while expanding or relocating 30. Next year, it expects to open 250 stores and expand or relocate 123.
As of May 1st, Dollar Tree had 2,579 stores in operation.
