Jeni Lee Dinkel Guilty of Rape

(Covington, Kentucky) In April, 51-year-old Hollywood makeup artist Jeni Lee Dinkel was charged with rape and sodomy for engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old Catholic schoolboy.

Today, Dinkel pleaded guilty to third-degree rape in accordance with a plea deal negotiated with Commonwealth Attorney Rob Sanders. Because Dinkel has no criminal record and the fact that she's a girl, Sanders said he would recommend to Kenton Circuit Judge Gregory Bartlett that Dinkel be given probation when sentenced on July 2nd.

Other elements of the plea agreement include registration as a sex offender, agreeing not to write a book, movie, etc. about her sex with the boy, paying for counseling of the boy and getting tested for STDs. She will also not be allowed to go near Covington Catholic High School except to pick up or drop off her son.

At sentencing, Judge Bartlett has the option of giving Dinkel a penalty of one to five years in prison, if he so chooses. I suggest that the judge give Dinkel some time behind bars. Although harshness isn't called for in this case, I do think a reasonable stretch is appropriate. Probation alone, I believe, is unreasonable.

I also believe that Commonwealth Attorney Sanders should rethink his policy of treating females as more equal in the eyes of the law. If Sanders worked for me, I'd fire him.

School Bookkeeper Steals $4,500 from Fund

(Cobb County, Georgia) A bookkeeper at Tapp Middle School, Darleen Gable, was arrested last week for allegedly stealing $4,500 from a student fund. Gable said she was having financial troubles and took the money to pay bills.

The money was collected through fundraising by the school's Critter Club which concentrates on education about animals. Club members planned a field trip that had to be canceled due to the theft.

The Cobb County School Board fired Gable. She was booked and released on $2,000 bond.
Nebraska Teacher on Lam From Sex Charges

(Fremont, Nebraska) A 25-year-old former teacher at Omaha Baptist Academy, Brandy Reynolds, is being sought by police for allegedly engaging in a two-year sexual relationship with a male student starting when the boy was 15. Fremont Police Detective Joyce Henke believes Reynolds has skipped town.

An arrest warrant charges Reynolds with first-degree sexual assault of the boy during several encounters between December 2004 and March 2006.

Authorities were alerted to the alleged crimes by the boy's family.

China Islamic Association - Koran Recital Competition

(Beijing, China) It's not clear what is being judged in a recital competition but, somehow, winners are chosen and apparently they become experts.

From Xinhua:
A five-day national Koran recital competition concluded in Beijing on Wednesday, with 13 candidates winning awards.

The competition, which was sponsored by the China Islamic Association, (CIA) was attended by 56 candidates of six ethnic groups from 24 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.

At the closing ceremony, CIA President Chen Wenyuan encouraged reciters to study "the profound essence of the Koran so as to carry forward Islamic traditions and contribute their bit to religious and social harmony."

The CIA has so far sent about 40 experts in reciting the Koran to countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Malaysia to attend international Koran recital competitions.
Maybe it's a memorization contest.

The China Islamic Association was launched six years ago by the government to provide oversight of Muslim imams and to vet their sermons. Sixteen Islamic religious leaders are charged with making sure that Islam is presented in "a correct and authoritative interpretation." Communist leaders are concerned that imams are using the sermons to spread sedition.

The primary region of dominant Muslim influence is the resource-rich Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region in western China. Uighur citizens are distinctly Muslim Turkic people with their own culture, language and traditions. Within Uighur society are prominent "ethnic separatist elements" and a menacing criminal underworld.

The communist regime in Beijing has no interest in allowing thoughts of self-determination to prevail in Xinjiang. The region has abundant oil, gas and minerals needed for China's growth and stability and the resurgence of Islamic extremism is a significant threat. For more than a decade, bombings and other terrorist incidents have occurred even though the separatists are small in number.

With all the preceding in mind, one must imagine that the recital competition uses "a correct and authoritative interpretation" of the Koran that is acceptable to the ChiComs. One must also wonder what the Islamic scholars in Mecca think of the communist Chinese slant on the Koran.
Officer Arrested as Suspected Illegal

(Milwaukee, Wisconsin) Here's a case which demonstrates the importance of thorough background checks.

A Milwaukee police officer was arrested Wednesday by federal immigration agents on suspicion of being an illegal immigrant who assumed the identity of his dead cousin a decade ago, officials said.

The officer, who has lived and worked under the name Jose A. Morales since he was a teenager, was arrested by agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, police spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz confirmed Wednesday.
If Morales is found to be an illegal who took his cousin's identity, criminal cases in which he has worked may be subject to valid appeals.

It wasn't disclosed how federal authorities came to investigate Morales but it's logical to suspect that a family member or close friend may have been overheard discussing his illegal status or may have simply spilled the beans. After all, somebody surely knew.

Morales was placed on paid suspension pending the outcome of the investigation.

Somewhere in the Shadow Constitution

The State of Washington Supreme Court is to rule on whether court-appointed attorneys are to be required in civil cases. The issue being considered is the appeal of a divorce proceeding where one party represented herself because she couldn't afford a lawyer -- and lost. The contention is that the taxpayer should be responsible for assuring civil litigants are adequately represented in court.

You know, the State of Washington has become such a utopian paradise that it wouldn't surprise me if a court decided that the state taxpayer has to buy all litigants a new suit to assure spiffy proceedings.
Teacher Undraped on Student's Cell Phone

(Center, Texas) A 26-year-old eighth-grade teacher, Janet Susan Parker, surrendered to Shelby County authorities on Wednesday after arrest warrants were issued for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a student.

An investigation of Parker was initiated in December 2006 after she was seen holding hands with a student at a local shopping mall. Parker was asked about the incident and subsequently resigned her teaching position. For lack of evidence, no further action was taken although an inappropriate relationship was suspected.

About two weeks ago, the case against Parker was reopened after a student's cell phone was confiscated at school. School staff then found a partially-nude photo of Parker. Pursuant to a warrant, Sheriff's deputies searched Parker's home and computers and found numerous photos of Parker and the student as well as e-mails, chats and 15 photographs believed to be child pornography.

Parker faces multiple counts of sexual performance by a child, sexual assault of a child and felony possession of child pornography. Meanwhile, the student has admitted to having sex with Parker.

Parker was booked into custody. There's no information on bond.
CA Teacher Arrested for Unlawful Sex

(Cuyama, California) A 29-year-old algebra, phys ed and drama teacher at Cuyama High School, Kelli Jo Camp, was arrested Tuesday for allegedly engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old male student.

School authorities alerted police after noticing inappropriate conduct between Camp and her male students. As evidence of the relationship, investigators found love letters, emails and photos in Camp's desk and computer.

Camp was booked into custody at the Santa Barbara County Jail.

Aussie Gunboats to Patrol South Philippines

This is such a needed effort, I'm surprised it wasn't implemented earlier.

Prime Minister John Howard and Philippines President Gloria Arroyo have signed an agreement allowing the two countries to do joint counter-terrorism exercises.

The "status of forces" agreement paves the way for joint military exercises and means Australia will help develop a fleet of high-speed gunboats to combat terrorists in the southern Philippines.
With no less than five distinct terrorist organizations (The Moro National Liberation Front, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, Abu Sayyaf, Jemaah Islamiyah and the New People's Army) operating in the region, coordinated marine patrols will likely impede terrorists' ability to operate freely while gathering intelligence regarding their intentions.

Extensively Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (XDR-TB)

Extensively Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (XDR-TB) is caused by bacteria that are resistant to first-line anti-TB drugs (isoniazid and rifampicin) and second-line drugs: fluoroquinolones and at least one of three injectable drugs (i.e., amikacin, kanamycin, or capreomycin).

Rare but found in every region of the globe, XDR-TB bacteria develop when first-line and second-line anti-TB drugs are misused or mismanaged (drugs are taken in the wrong combination, are fewer than prescribed or taken in insufficient doses or insufficient time).

Transmission of the XDR-TB bacteria is person-to-person through sneezing, coughing or merely talking. A person acquiring the bacteria may become diseased with XDR-TB depending on the amount of exposure to the bacteria and the strength of the patient's immune system. Individuals with HIV/AIDS are at greater risk of becoming ill.

Data indicate that the cure rate for XDR-TB is dismal. Treatment options are severely limited. Under the best medical care, only about half of affected people survive. Consequently, there is an urgent need for new drugs.

Ted Nugent is a rock-star and an inveterate, unapologetic conservative. One time during an interview, a Lefty journalist was giving Nugent a hard time about his favorite hobby (deer hunting with bow-and-arrow). At one point the journalist asks him:

"What do you think the last thought is in the mind of a deer before you shoot it? Is it, 'Are you my friend?' or is it 'Are you the one who killed my brother?' "

Nugent replied:

"Deer aren't capable of that kind of thinking. All they care about is, 'What am I going to eat next, who am I going to screw next, and can I run fast enough to get away. They are very much like the French."

China Ready for Nuclear War

More than anything else, advances in missile and submarine technology now allow the Chinese to threaten nations beyond regionally. Of course, everything is based on anecdotal data, estimates and speculation since the Chinese don't permit their mainstream media to regularly spew national secrets.

According to the 2007 edition of the Pentagon's annual report on Chinese military power, China is developing capabilities beyond regional war at a pace that both surprises and concerns U.S. officials. The capabilities include a new generation of ballistic missile submarines and a first-strike attack on our military satellites.

The report identifies five new Jin-class ballistic missile submarines that will each be outfitted with a dozen 5,000-mile-range JL-2 missiles. The Type 094 Jin class changes the strategic nuclear balance significantly and makes the need for a robust U.S. national missile defense even stronger.

China developed the first-generation Xia-class ballistic missile submarine in the 1980s. Only one was built. It rarely left port and had limited operational capability, mainly due to the short range of its missiles.

China has deployed a road-mobile, solid-propellant intercontinental range strategic missile, the DF-31, and is expected to field in the near future the extended range DF-31A, which can target most of the world, including the continental United States.

The JL-2, a submarine-launched version of the DF-31, is equipped with multiple warheads and penetration aids that could reach the U.S. mainland from Chinese coastal waters.

"If China puts these systems in place effectively on the scale reported in sea-basing and land-basing, it will now have a robust second-strike capability," said Lyle Goldstein, director of the China Maritime Studies Institute at the U.S. Naval War College. "What was gray before is now becoming clear. China can now effectively fight a nuclear war."
Correct me if I'm mistaken, but wasn't it the Clinton administration that allowed the Chinese to acquire state-of-the-art U.S. missile guidance technology?

Lawsuit: Sex Offenders Threatened in Prison

(Concord, New Hampshire) No shock here. Sex offenders in prison are not popular. As a consequence, Tony Ellison, sentenced for sexually assaulting three relatives, aged 10 and younger, has filed a lawsuit against prison officials for failing to provide adequate security. He's seeking $1 million. Unfortunately, if Ellison doesn't pay the $12.50 filing fee by next month, the lawsuit will be dismissed.

I suppose it's a character flaw but I've been unable to conjure up any sympathy whatsoever for the plight of child sex offenders in prison. Maybe I need therapy.
Quebec Loves Taxes

(Montreal, Canada) People polled in Quebec, according to Christian Bourque of Leger Marketing, answered overwhelming against tax cuts.

Quebecers don't want to keep more of their own money. This sounds ludicrous, however, if one analyzes how the poll question was worded, it makes a little sense. Here's the poll question (with some creative paraphrasing).
"Will you support tax cuts if it means you are going to be stupid and die a sickly death?"

Not On My Couch

(Cleveland, Ohio) A 50-year-old man, Johnny M. Smith, attended a party at the home of his niece, Roxanne L. Smith, 46, and around 1AM Monday morning he was stricken ill, vomiting on the niece's couch.

Roxanne Smith left the room, returned with a gun and shot her uncle several times in the chest and stomach. Uncle Johnny died during surgery at Huron Hospital.

I imagine there was some bone-deep animosity behind the shooting, not just the fact that he puked on her furniture.
China: Death Row for FDA Chief

(Beijing, China) Ironically, not only did patients die from fake medicines but the head of the Chinese Food and Drug Administration, Zheng Xiaoyu, was sentenced to death after being convicted of the corruption which allowed the distribution of fake medicine.

From Khaleej Times:
Zheng, 62, headed the watchdog agency from 1998 to 2005 but was expelled from the ruling Communist Party earlier this year after investigators said he abused the administration's approval powers to obtain bribes and win illegal profits from drug companies.
The specific circumstances of which Zheng was convicted of orchestrating were the malnutrition deaths of Chinese babies fed fake milk and the deaths of an unknown number of people in Panama and China after they were given fake medicine.

I wonder if Zheng was in charge of inspecting pet food and toothpaste, both of which have been found to contain poison. Since he left the agency in 2005, possibly not.

However, does it really make a difference who is in charge? China is a communist police state run by thugs and, by definition, thugs are corrupt. I suspect that all future heads of the Chinese FDA will be just as corrupt as Zheng, but more careful about killing people.
Child Rapist Walks, Jaws Drop

(Topeka, Kansas) A 38-year-old local man, Orlando Paul Cisneros, was convicted by a jury on 17 child sex offenses, including aggravated indecent liberties, criminal sodomy and rape, against a 14-year-old girl. Under sentencing guidelines, Cisneros faced 155 months (12 years, 11 months) in prison.

On Friday, Shawnee County District Judge Matthew Dowd sentenced Cisneros to probation. Dowd deviated from the guidelines because Cisneros committed the repeated rape and sodomy when he was depressed, therefore, his behavior was and is excusable -- apparently. The prosecutors and the victim's family were stunned.
To digress momentarily, readers may recall the outrage when Judge Edward Cashman in Vermont sentenced convicted child molester Mark Hulett to 60 days in jail for repeatedly raping a girl. There were calls to throw Cashman out of office.

There's also the public outrage regarding Judge John A. Conner in Ohio. He sentenced pedophile Andrew Selva to home confinement and probation for molesting two boys over a three year period. And, as with Cashman, voices called for Conner's ouster.

In both cases, it appears that the judges thought not of the victims, but of the perpetrators. Judge Cashman and Judge Conner sent the message that there is nothing sacrosanct about protecting children. There is no dividing line between right and wrong. It's maybe, somewhat, a little bit wrong -- depending on circumstances.

So now we have Judge Matthew Dowd, joining Judge Cashman and Judge Conner in the apparent belief that child rapists don't necessarily deserve harsh, or even reasonable, punishment.
Dowd allowed Cisneros to avoid paying for his crimes. Dowd reasoned that Cisneros was depressed so -- no jail. Dowd reasoned that Cisneros held a job so -- no jail. Instead, Cisneros gets probation.

This case is a miscarriage of logic. The victim, still only 14 years old, is at risk of future overtures from Cisneros. Dowd should have at least sentenced Cisneros to incarceration until the girl is out of her teens, giving her a chance to grow up without the ever-present knowledge that her rapist could be lurking around the next corner.

And, yes, Cisneros has been told to stay away from his victm, but if child sex offenders have a generic trait, it's that they regularly ignore the law. In that regard, they arguably have something in common with certain judges.

In 1863, Abraham Lincoln spoke for the ages about the brave men on one battlefield, Gettysburg. His words clearly ring true for all the brave Americans lost in all the battles of freedom. Here are the last three sentences in The Gettysburg Address.

The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. Acanthamoeba Keratitis

A rare infection of the eye called Acanthamoeba keratitis hit the news this weekend with an outbreak of at least 138 cases confirmed in 35 states and Puerto Rico. The infection is caused by a microscopic parasite of the genus Acanthamoeba which is the most common free-living amoebae in fresh water and soil.


The amoebae attack the cornea, potentially leading to a necessary transplant or blindness. Contact lens wearers appear to be most at risk of becoming infected and a link to a lens cleaning solution has been identified with a resulting voluntary recall.
Epidemiologists from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have linked the acanthamoeba keratitis outbreak to AMO Complete Moisture Plus Multi-Purpose Solution. Advanced Medical Optics of Santa Ana, Calif., manufactures the solution, which is used to clean and store soft contact lenses.

AMO said there was no evidence to suggest that its product was contaminated with acanthamoeba and that it took its action as a precaution.

Federal officials have advised consumers to stop using the solution immediately and to discard all partly used or unopened bottles and switch to alternative products.

They have also advised people to throw out their current contact lenses and the lens storage cases because they may harbor the acanthamoeba parasite.

And, officials said, those who have used the product should call an eye doctor if they have experienced eye pain or redness, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, the feeling of something in the eye or excessive tearing. [my bold]

Lastly, be aware that people who have compromised immune systems are at greater risk of infection by the parasite.
Nude Car Wash Controversy

(Brisbane, Australia) A controversy is foaming in this subtropical coastal city. The booming Bubbles 'n' Babes nude car wash has sparked a puritan outcry from conservative citizens, especially given that the topless and nude car washes are augmented, for a few dollars more, with an X-rated show. Police have investigated the car wash and now there is fear that the business will be closed on a technicality.

Since full-service brothels are within walking distance of the car wash, the girls at Bubbles 'n' Babes don't understand all the fuss. A former stripper turned car washer named Summer weighed in:
"They come here, they get a car wash; they're not allowed to touch us, they're not allowed to do anything, so what's the difference?"
Another car washer, backpacker Isabelle from Germany, sought the job as a way to earn money for her return trip home. The work pays well and most of the people are fun, she says.
All girls agree they feel safe and have rarely had any problem customers.

"A lot of them just come here to wank," Isabelle says.

Toledo Students Barred From Commencement

(Toledo, Ohio) Some parents of seniors in the Toledo Public School system are upset that their children are barred from walking at commencement because they failed the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT). Despite parents' pleas to let their children participate, Board of Education President Steven Steel confirmed on Friday that they would be barred. Many students are affected.
Of the 295 Toledo Public seniors who took at least one OGT section in March, 147 failed . . . .
Apparently, unless the requirements are changed, which is a possibility for the future, or a waiver is granted, the seniors who fail the OGT are out of luck.

Nevertheless, parents and students are protesting, presumably being under the impression that a diploma is deserved. Last Monday, 32 students gathered at the TPS Administration Building for a public display of their outrage.

I'd suggest that the outrage is misplaced. Parents should be outraged at their children for not learning enough to pass the test.

(Anaheim, California) Slanted reporting? You make the call.

SUV hits light pole in Anaheim; girl is ejected and dies, 5 teens hurt

A girl was killed Saturday after being ejected from a sport utility vehicle in which she and five other teenagers were riding as it crashed into a concrete light pole in Anaheim, a police spokesman said.
So, six riders, but no driver, were in an SUV that crashed, killing one person and injuring five.

Buried in the last paragraph, however, it is reported that the SUV was actually being driven by a 17-year-old male. Surely I'm being picky, but it would be more important to know some details of the crash and the abilities of the driver than the type of vehicle involved. For example, what were the weather and road conditions? Was the driver distracted or impaired?

But, no! Instead of telling us why the driver ran his vehicle into a pole, the primary emphasis of the report is that an SUV crashed and killed a girl. Obviously, the SUV is responsible and the elite media have made it a drumbeat by regularly headlining SUVs as the cause of crashes.

I suppose it's pure fantasy to expect "Prius hits pole, girl dies!"

Ice Cream Peddler Sells Weed

(Mission, Texas) A 40-year-old illegal alien from Mexico, Raymundo Flores, was arrested Thursday for possession of marijuana.
Police say elementary school students tipped them off to an ice cream truck driver who was apparently selling $5 and $10 bags of marijuana from the truck. Most customers were in the third, fourth, and fifth grades.
Flores was booked into the Hidalgo County Jail with bond set at $30,000. According to Assistant Police Chief Robert Dominguez, Flores will likely be turned over to immigration officials.

Yep! Just another illegal alien doing a job that Americans won't do, selling dope to schoolchildren.
Boy Kills Monster!

(Anniston, Alabama) Simply Amazing! An 11-year-old boy, Jamison Stone, used a .50 caliber revolver, a monster handgun, to kill a wild hog weighing 1,051 pounds, a monster pig. Congratulations to Jamison.


I am really impressed, not only by the size of the trophy but also the gun used. More pics and details here.

Interestingly, when Smith & Wesson first came out with the .50 caliber pistol, I recall some anti-gun voices claiming that there was no need for the large caliber handgun since the weapon would never be used for hunting. Well, I suggest that Jamison Stone has proven otherwise. I'd also suggest that a smaller weapon likely would not have stopped the monster pig.

The zorse is defined as a cross between a zebra and a horse while a crossing of a zebra with a donkey produces a zonkey (or zebrass or zedonk). Zebra hybrids may generally be called zebroids. All hybrids are sterile.

Since zebras are wild animals, they pass on some wild traits to their offspring. Experienced handlers can use zorses for riding and draught work but they are known to be temperamental and aggressive.
Teacher Allegedly Inappropriate with Student

(Milford, Connecticut) A 22-year-old former substitute teacher at Law High School, Tara Johnson, was arrested yesterday for allegedly engaging in an inappropriate relationship with an 18-year-old student. Johnson turned herself in to the police after learning that a warrant was issued for her arrest.
The arrest followed an investigation that began Dec. 20 when Law administrators told police about the relationship.

Police found that Johnson and the student met each other in a parking lot at 54 Darina Place off school property where the alleged crime took place.

Law High School parents and PTA officials contacted Friday praised the arrest, noting Johnson had never been a student there.

"We heard the investigation was ongoing," said Robert White, PTA Council Executive Committee president and parent of a Law student. "Even though they're both adults, they should know this kind of student-teacher relationship is inappropriate."
Johnson was booked and released on $10,000 bond. A court appearance is scheduled for June 12th.

(London, England) During an inquiry into the professional practice of Dr. Russelll Reid, a psychiatrist who specializes in transgenderism, former patient Marissa Dainton had an interesting experience to relate.
Ms Dainton, a senior NHS nurse from Eastbourne, is a former patient of Dr Reid who underwent three sex changes in a decade.

Dr Reid referred her for her first sex reassignment surgery after just six months, contrary to international medical guidance.

She subsequently joined an evangelical church and was persuaded her sex change was sinful. She underwent further surgery and reverted to living as a man, but in 2004 decided to return to living as a woman.

Although she initially partly blamed Dr Reid for her gender confusion, she now says he is a good doctor and blames the church and herself for her decision to reverse her first sex change.
So, born a man, Dainton decided to become a woman, then "she" decided to become a man and "he" then decided to become a woman again. She's still around so there's the possibility of yet more retooling.

Sheesh! I'd suggest that Dainton needs a different hobby.
More Oil Workers Kidnapped in Nigeria

Needless to mention, this is getting old.

(Bayelsa, Nigeria) A reported eight oil workers, four British, three American and one South African, were kidnapped today in the oil-rich Niger Delta region. Names of the hostages haven't been disclosed. The kidnappings occurred after thug gunmen on two speed boats attacked a pipe-laying vessel.

Today's abductions come on the heels of yesterday's kidnapping of a Polish engineer near the oil city of Warri. A total of 16 kidnapping victims are currently being held by armed groups in the delta. Approximately 100 foreign workers have been abducted so far this year. Usually, victims are released after ransom is paid.

The kidnappings are an indication of the general surge in crime and violence in the region as competing groups vie for more access to oil revenues. Oddly, one result of the violence is that there has been a decrease of about 25 percent in oil production and corresponding revenue.

Do you want to be taller? If the answer is yes, then exotic Hong Kong beauty salons may have a solution.

A student in Hong Kong was conned by a beauty parlour into paying more than 7,000 US dollars for electric shock treatment and a 'magical' cream to make her taller, a news report said Friday.

The case is one of 13 highlighted by the territory's Democratic Party, which wants to see tighter controls on beauty parlours offering dubious and expensive treatments to gullible clients.

The undergraduate was told the electric current would stimulate growth of soft tissues and increase her height but was refused a refund when she found the pain of the treatment too much to bear, the South China Morning Post reported.

In another case, a 24-year-old woman was persuaded to pay 1,000 US dollars for electric-current treatment, which she was told, would give her western-style 'double eyelids.'

She was later told she had too much fat around her eyes and was persuaded to pay another 920 US dollars for intense light treatment to reduce the fat, the newspaper said.

The treatment left her in pain with swollen eyelids and unable to see properly and was dismissed by a plastic surgeon as useless for removing fat or creating double eyelids, a sought-after treatment in Asian beauty salons.
I won't be critical of the Chinese for buying into the scams since I know that Americans can be just as stupid.

Another Theft From Blind Deli Owner

Looks like we have a crime spree.

(Hamilton County, Ohio) Another person, Andre Wilson, 43, has been arrested for stealing from Kent Parker, the blind owner of a deli inside the Hamilton County Courthouse.

Readers may recall from earlier this month that 19-year-old Mary Cayze was arrested for the same offense.

From The Enquirer:
Deputy Ken Pendleton reviewed videotape from the deli and identified Wilson as the man stealing a fruit pie and drink -- valued at $2.30 -- from the shop.

At 8:13 a.m. today, Wilson walked into the Courthouse and then into Parker's first-floor deli.

He was seen stuffing milk, apple pies, juice and 13 Slim Jims -- valued at $9.75 -- in his pants without paying for the items, the sheriff's office said.

He was arrested and charged with theft for the two incidents.
Since the thefts were from a blind person, the charges are felonies. So, for about $12, Andre Wilson possibly faces a future as a felon.

In the Cayze case and another case in April where LaTonya Brown, 39, was arrested, a one-dollar bill was given to the deli owner while telling him it was a $10 bill. Both Cayze and Brown also face felonies.

Sheesh! Three people collared in a month! You'd think the word would get around not to steal from the blind guy in the courthouse.
Teacher Accused of Molesting Boy

(Cheboygan, Michigan) A 31-year-old former private school teacher, Deana Louise Luedtke, was arraigned yesterday for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old male student at Cornerstone Christian School.

Luedtke is charged with multiple counts of third-degree and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

According to Cornerstone Christian School Principal Susan Agee, Luedtke worked as a substitute for a short period in 2002 and she was asked to babysit the boy which led to sex. The boy victim told police he and Luedtke had a sexual relationship between December 2002 and March 2003.

Luedtke is free on bond awaiting a scheduled court appearance on June 6th. If convicted of the charges against her, Luedtke faces as much as 15 years in prison.

Home Invader Shot Dead

(Fayetteville, North Carolina) About 5 AM yesterday morning, four young men set up to invade the home of gun-owning Fort Bragg soldier, Brooks Boone. They were unsuccessful as Boone fired several shots, fatally hitting 16-year-old Buchkechio Geddie in the chest.

Geddie was carried to the hospital by his accomplices, Michael Fripp, 22, Torrian Knowles, 18, and Kwuamae Keaton, 17. Each has been charged with first-degree burglary and conspiracy.

After being booked into custody, bail for Keaton and Knowles was set at $50,000 each. Bail for 22-year-old Fripp was set at $60,000. Fripp faces an additional charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Pics are at the link.

Buchkechio Geddie was a student at Hoke Christian Academy after being expelled from South View High School last year. Geddie's dad, Fernando Geddie, said he hopes his son's death will be a lesson for other young men to make better choices in life.

This appears to be another clear case of self defense.
California Brain Drain

California now loses 9,200 more college grads per year to other states than it gains, partly due to the high cost of housing here, the study concludes.
Besides the cost of housing, I can think of several other motivations to leave the state. High taxes, for one, immediately comes to mind.

Dueling Zoos

(Berlin, Germany) Officials at the Berlin Zoo are being criticized for allowing dangerous wild animals to become too comfortable with humans.
Berlin Zoo denied an accusation by the head of Rotterdam Zoo that it had spoiled Bokito, the 11 year-old gorilla who escaped his enclosure and seriously wounded a visitor in the Dutch zoo last Friday.

The 180-kilogram ape was hand-reared in Berlin Zoo and escaped from his cage there too on two occasions, once shinning up a three meter fence and sending vistors racing for the exits, before he was transferred to Rotterdam two years ago.
Last Friday in Rotterdam, Bokito crossed a 3.5-meter ditch, vaulted an electric fence, grabbed a female visitor, broke her arm and bit her more than 100 times before being shot with a tranquilizer dart. Dutch zoo officials said that Bokito was coddled and spoiled by the Berlin Zoo, prompting aggressive behavior towards people.

Berlin Zoo officials did admit that they took Bokito out for walks and to the restaurant for pizza but deny there was any bad upbringing.

And, of course, the question must be asked. What does a 400-pound gorilla eat in a pizza restaurant?
Servicewoman Gets 4 Months for Threesome

(Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany) A 22-year-old Airman 1st Class, Ashley N. Rains, pleaded guilty at court-martial on Monday to two indecent acts. Rains was originally charged with rape and sodomy for engaging in an alcohol-induced menage a trois with a male airman and a female staff sergeant but those charges were dropped in accordance with a plea agreement.

Judge (Col.) Gordon Hammock sentenced Rains, an aircrew life support specialist, to four months confinement and reduction to the lowest pay grade.

The other airman, Christopher D. Hicks, faces court-martial for rape and sodomy on May 30th. The female staff sergeant wasn't charged in the case because Air Force lawyers said she was too drunk to be an active participant in the threesome.

(Berlin, Germany) In preparation for the Group of Eight (G8) Summit Meeting next month, German police are compiling a database of human scents to track down possible violent protesters. A spokesman confirmed that the scents of anti-globalization activists have been collected for use by police sniffer dogs to identify troublemakers in the crowd.

Opponents voiced concerns that the stink method of identifying suspects was a trick used by the notorious Stasi secret police of the former East Germany.
The East German security police -- the omnipresent Stasi -- routinely collected scents from dissidents, often from bits of clothing sealed in airtight containers for storage, in order to track defectors or suspects later with the help of sniffer dogs.

"This leaves a very bad taste in my mouth," Social Democrat minister Zypries told HR3 radio.
Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble defended the practice as a reasonable measure to assure security during the June 6-8 gathering of heads of state.

Logically, one could conclude that the perpetrator of the elusive "perfect crime" will always smell guilty, despite the lack of any other evidence.

Tennessee Teacher and Girl

(White Bluff, Tennessee) A 36-year-old teacher and softball coach at William James Middle School, Julie E. Petty, was arrested Monday night for allegedly engaging in sex with a 14-year-old female student. Petty has been charged with sexual battery by an authority figure and sexual rape by an authority figure.

According to Dickson County Schools Director Charlie Daniel, Petty has been suspended without pay. Petty only recently began working for the school system after being hired through a contract employment agency. Daniel said a background check was performed.

Petty was booked into custody and, as of Tuesday night, languishes in jail in lieu of $250,000 bail. If convicted of the charges, Petty potentially faces two six-year prison terms.

Daycare Owner Accused of Murdering Toddler

(Tulsa, Oklahoma) A 42-year-old daycare provider, Vicki Chiles, was arrested last week after DHS authorities arrived at the daycare regarding an unrelated child abuse case and found her trying to perform CPR on an unresponsive two-year-old toddler, Joshua Minton.

Chiles told investigators that the child was unruly at nap time so she tied his hands together with tape and taped his mouth shut.

When found, Joshua Minton was unconscious and didn't have a heartbeat. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and later died.

With the death, Chiles was taken into custody on first-degree murder charges and held without bail.

Interestingly, the day before the incident involving Joshua, the state filed charges against Chiles regarding an allegation of child abuse of an 8-year-old boy who was repeatedly hit with a fly swatter. The Minton family was never notified that Chiles was under investigation by DHS authorities and the Tulsa Police.

The Minton family buried Joshua Minton yesterday. They are justifiably outraged that their son died and they were never notified of the problems with the daycare center.
Atonda Minton says had she known about the allegations Joshua's parents would have pulled him out of the daycare.

"The other parents have a right to know that there is a problem in that daycare. They have a right to know," Minton said.

"You don't leave your kids in the house if the smoke alarms are going off, or a bomb threat. It should have been an alarm going off in their head. This woman has already abused, she's going to do it again," said Minton.

Minton says she can't understand why it took several weeks to investigate the initial complaint of abuse, and she wants the process sped up.

Bestiality - The Movie

(Cannes, France) About two years ago, a man died from engaging in sex with a horse at a farm in the state of Washington. The farm was found to be a gathering place for livestock lovers and the story garnered significant interest. In fact, there was enough interest that independent filmmaker Robinson Devor made a movie which has now been previewed at the Cannes Film Festival.

Called Zoo, the film envelops the story of bestiality in "rich photography that gives it a dreamlike beauty."
Many reviews have been favourable to the approach taken by Devor and his team.

"They've crafted a subdued, mysterious and intensely beautiful film that presents bestiality not for the purpose of titillation?but as a way of investigating the subjective nature of morality," the movie trade magazine Variety wrote.
Leave it to the film industry to come up with a movie that depicts sex with animals as something beautiful. By the way, for those who may be slow on the uptake, "the subjective nature of morality" means a total disregard for any moral standards.

Teacher Arrested for Criminal Sex in Classroom

(East Greenbush, New York) This report is disgusting. A 37-year-old social studies teacher at Columbia High School, Kirk James Hellwig, was arrested yesterday for allegedly having oral sex in his classroom with a 16-year-old male student during the school day. Police were alerted after a rumor started circulating at the school.
"One of our officers who is stationed at the school was approached by two principals about the rumor," said town Police Chief Christopher Lavin. "We then searched some premises, collected evidence, interviewed numerous individuals and reviewed computer activity."

Hellwig, who is single and has taught social studies at the school since 1999, was arrested Monday morning on three counts each of felony third-degree criminal sex act and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.

He was arraigned in town court Monday and released on $25,000 bail.
Hellwig was suspended from his teaching position and barred from school property. A court appearance is tentatively scheduled for Thursday.

According to AdAge.com, airlines are going to be placing columns from BusinessWeek on the tray tables of airplane passenger seats. America West and US Airways have already bought into the campaign offered by media company Brand Connections.

The aisle, middle and window seats will all have different content with updates monthly. Agreed, since the content comes from a weekly publication, it doesn't make a lot of sense to update monthly.

Currently, the scheme only affects passengers in steerage, or economy seating, but will be expanded to first-class later this year.
Latinos Over-Represented in HIV/AIDS

(Washington, D.C.) Last week, prominent Latino leaders gathered at the Capital Hilton Hotel to discuss health problems of the Latino population. The conclusion was that HIV/AIDS was the biggest threat to the health of Latinos.
Latinos make up 14 percent of the total U.S. population, but they make up almost 25 percent of all HIV/AIDS cases, a group of Latino leaders said Wednesday. The community must overcome the stigma associated with seeking treatment before that number will change, they said.
Other significant health concerns are diabetes and mental illness. Liany Elba Arroyo of the National Council of La Raza estimates that 10 percent of all Latinos over the age of 20 have diabetes.

With respect to mental illness, it's considered at crisis level among Latinos according to Majose Carrasco, director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness Multicultural Action Center. Men, in particular, have extremely high rates of depression and anxiety.

The leaders believe more resources need to be devoted to Latino health facilities, research and education and help needs to be provided to reduce the stigma of seeking treatment. Latinos generally are reluctant to seek medical help because they don't feel comfortable, the leaders said. I would wager that the uncomfortable feeling comes from being illegally in the U.S. and unable to speak English.

Interestingly, the Latino leaders met on Wednesday and before the introduction of the latest illegal immigrant amnesty bill in Congress. It seems logical to anticipate that, once amnesty is granted, Latinos will no longer be stigmatized from seeking treatment and medical facility corridors will see a surge of HIV/AIDS, diabetes and mental health patients.

Homeless Problem in Venezuela

(Caracas, Venezuela) El Nacional newspaper reports that the socialist utopia of Hugo Chavez is having problems. According to the state homeless program director Joel Botinni, there is insufficient infrastructure and capacity to meet demand for homeless services. (Source)
The so-called Negra Hipolita program, founded as one of President Hugo Chavez's social "missions" in January 2006, has used its 180 billion bolivar ($84 million) budget to help 12,000 homeless people, overtaxing its resources as poor people pour into the capital from the countryside, the newspaper said, citing Yuoarary Carrizales, who runs the program's main shelter.

Carrizales's is the only one of four Caracas homeless shelters now open, accepting about 60 people a day to shower and eat, but not to stay overnight, the newspaper said.

Less than one percent of homeless Venezuelans are successfully "reintegrated" into society, casting doubt on former Social Development Minister Luis Garcia Carneiro's promise that the program would end homelessness in the country this year, Nacional said.
Frankly, I imagine that Chavez will not have to search far for an answer to the homelessness problem. Logically, he'll be inclined to implement the successful camp systems pioneered by predecessor socialist dictators Stalin, Chairman Mao, Kim Jong-il and Hitler. Their police-state innovations created places for hundreds of thousands of people with virtually no complaints.

Al Qaeda Doctor Convicted

(New York City) A 52-year-old Florida-based doctor, Rafiq Abdus Sabir, was convicted today in federal court in Manhattan of conspiracy to provide material support and providing or attempting to provide material support or resources to al Qaeda.

From Reuters:
The case did not involve any attack plot, but centered on an oath that Sabir and his close friend Tarik Shah made in Arabic in May 2005 to an undercover FBI agent posing as an al Qaeda recruiter. He taped both men pledging support to the militant Islamic group and "Sheikh Osama."

Sabir, a strict Muslim born and raised in New York, testified during the trial that he did not realize during the meeting that "Osama" referred to Osama bin Laden and had misunderstood the pronunciation of "al Qaeda" due to his limited Arabic.
Sabir's defensive argument didn't ring true for the jury. It's doubtful that any sane individual would buy the contention that he didn't know that "Sheikh Osama" meant Osama bin Laden. Nevertheless, as a result of the conviction, he faces a possible 30-year prison term when sentencing occurs on September 12th.

His close friend, Tarik Shah, caught in the same sting operation, pleaded guilty and agreed to a 15-year prison term. He has yet to be sentenced.

Illegal Kills Cop During Traffic Stop

(Kenosha, Wisconsin) My sympathies are with the family and friends of Kenosha County Sheriff's Deputy Frank Fabiano Jr. who was killed in the line of duty last Wednesday. Ezeiquiel Lopez, a 44-year-old illegal immigrant with a noteworthy criminal record, has been charged with first-degree homicide.

According to the charges, Fabiano tried to pull over Lopez, who was driving a maroon Chevrolet mini-van, about 11:35 p.m. Wednesday in Somers, which borders Kenosha.

A police officer from nearby University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Jimmie Spino, went to back up Fabiano. As he parked his car, Spino heard Fabiano order the van driver out, then heard two gunshots and saw two flashes, apparently from the pistol, the criminal complaint said.

Spino returned fire, as the van driver kept firing at the two officers and then ran into a nearby woods.

Fabiano was taken to St. Catherine's Hospital in Pleasant Prairie, where he was pronounced dead at 12:30 a.m. from a gunshot wound to the head.

Lopez was arrested three hours later in a Kenosha apartment complex. He had a .38-caliber handgun, which matches the weapon used in the shooting, police said.
Lopez's criminal record, going back to 2001, includes arrests for lewd and lascivious conduct, a gun charge, domestic battery, bail jumping, drunken driving and disorderly conduct. In addition to Wisconsin, arrests have occurred in Texas, Utah and Missouri.

Tim Counts of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said the agency has never even heard about Lopez before. Of course, one could only guess how many aliases Lopez may have used and how many communities gave him sanctuary.

Bond for Lopez was set at $1 million. A court appearance is scheduled for May 29th.
Citizenship Test Outrages Muslims

The Australian Immigration Ministry has outraged the Muslim community with a proposed citizenship test question that states the Australian values system is based on Judeo-Christian tradition. Federation of Islamic Councils President Dr. Ameer Ali said, "That question must be rephrased."

Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews responded by stating that Australia's Judeo-Christian heritage was indisputable historical fact.

Nonetheless, Dr. Ali said he wants a meeting with Mr. Andrews since, "It is the wrong message we are sending."

Therefore, one must conclude that from a Muslim perspective, indisputable historical facts send the wrong message.

JAG Lawyer Sentenced for Revealing Secrets

(Norfolk, Virginia) U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Matthew M. Diaz, 41, a former staff judge advocate at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was convicted at court-martial Thursday of communicating secret information that could be used to injure the United States. It's no surprise that leftists are calling Diaz a hero.

Diaz leaked detainees' names, nationalities, the interrogators assigned to them and intelligence sources and methods to a human rights lawyer. The information was sent in an unsigned Valentine's Day card to Barbara Olshansky of the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR).

Navy Times:
After deliberating for three and a half hours, the jury sentenced Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Diaz to six months' confinement and dismissal from the Navy.

Jurors asked in their recommendation to the convening authority, Rear Adm. Fredric Ruehe, that Diaz's pay not be forfeited during his six-month confinement. Diaz has several dependents, including an ex-wife, a wife, a daughter, his mother and his father, who is on death row in California.
Although it appears that Diaz will collect his $6,834 monthly salary while in the brig, it hasn't been disclosed whether he will receive his pension for having 20 years in the military. Dismissal from service after a conviction for espionage likely negates future benefits. It's also not clear how a death row inmate can be considered a dependent.

As Diaz was being shuffled off to the brig, he said he was happy with the outcome of the court-martial and, "I should have done better. It was extremely irrational for me to do what I did." Not only irrational, counselor, but criminal. Also, for the future, Mr. Diaz, expect people to be quite reluctant to entrust you with sensitive information.

PA Woman Guilty in Child Sex Case

(Perry County, Pennsylvania) In February 2007, 23-year-old Angela Nicole Rudy was charged with sexual assault for engaging in relations with a 14-year-old boy in July 2006. In April 2007, Rudy pleaded not guilty to statutory sexual assault.

Following her not guilty plea, Rudy gave birth to a child and it was determined that the 14-year-old is the child's father.

On Thursday of this week, Rudy pleaded guilty in Perry County Court to one count of statutory sexual assault.

Sentencing is scheduled for July. Rudy faces a possible 16 months in prison.

Mexicans Voting in U.S. Elections?

A report from Texas:
Hundreds of illegal immigrants have registered to vote in Bexar County in recent years and dozens of them have actually cast ballots, canceling out the votes of U.S. citizens, 1200 WOAI news will report Thursday morning.

Figures obtained by 1200 WOAI news shows 303 illegals successfully registered to vote, and at least 41 cast ballots in various elections.
To answer the question posed by the title, YES! Either that or Guatemalans, or Hondurans or some other foreign nationals have cast ballots, and had them counted, in Texas.

So, how is the government going to keep illegals from crossing the border when we can't even prevent them from voting? And it wouldn't surprise me if an illegal, after deportation, received an absentee ballot sent to his foreign address.

Coach Accused of Molesting Girl

(Liverpool, England) A 28-year-old tennis coach, Claire Lyte, has been accused of molesting a 13-year-old girl.

Lyte faces five charges of sex assault, one charge related to an October 2005 incident and four new charges for alleged offenses between May 2005 and June 2006. The new charges were filed yesterday in Liverpool Crown Court.

The Lawn Tennis Association has suspended Lyte's coaching license.

Lyte has denied all charges. Her trial is scheduled to start on October 1st in Liverpool Crown Court.

Claire Lyte's trial has started and the salacious details are being presented by the prosecution. The girl's mother allegedly caught Lyte and her daughter engaged in lesbian lovemaking on more than one occasion. Lyte's DNA was found in the 13-year-old girl's knickers which were found in Lyte's apartment.

Lyte, 29, continues to deny the charges as the case continues in Liverpool Crown Court.

The teen victim, now 15, gave testimony.
The 15-year-old broke down in tears as she explained why she had not exposed what was allegedly happening sooner.

"She said if I was to say anything to anybody she would hurt me and she would stop my tennis completely and would tell the academy to get rid of me," the girl said.

She insisted she had felt pressured into the relationship. "Every time something happened, I never wanted it to," she added. "It happened because I felt under pressure."

Jurors were told the girl sent Lyte intimate text messages, referring to herself as the coach's "babyface" and promising to love her for ever.
The trial continues.

Claire Lyte found guilty.
Tennis coach Claire Lyte was convicted today of molesting one of her 13-year-old female students.

The 29-year-old was found guilty of four out of five counts of sexual activity with the child, who was her pupil at the Lawn Tennis Association Academy. The jury failed to reach a verdict on the final count.

The panel, sitting at Liverpool Crown Court, rejected Lyte's claims that the allegations were invented by the child's "ambitious" and "pushy" mother, who was bitter that the youngster would not make the grade as a professional tennis player.

The court heard that Lyte, of Shirley, Solihull, West Midlands, was found with the girl naked and having oral sex when the mother returned home early from a party.

The two-week trial was also told that Lyte had offered to baby-sit the child and they had shared a Bournemouth hotel room during a tennis tournament.

Lyte admitted wearing the girl's underwear and receiving romantic text messages from the young player, but denied anything inappropriate had taken place.

She told the court: "The family have all told lies. It is all made up. I think the mother knew about her daughter's infatuation with me."
Lyte is scheduled to be sentenced on November 2nd. It's reported that she broke down in tears outside the courtroom.

Teacher's Aide Accused of Raping Boy

(Queens, New York) A 55-year-old teacher's aide at PS196, Lois Cheryl Enden, was arrested Thursday for allegedly raping an 11-year-old boy repeatedly eight years ago. The boy, now a teen, remembered the abuse after a chance sighting of Enden.
Authorities said the teen had been silent about allegedly having sex with Enden on numerous occasions in 1999 and 2000 until he spotted her walking her dog early last month while he was playing football with friends in Forest Hills.

A friend with whom he shared his story convinced the teen, now a high-school senior, to go to police, authorities said. A police report was filed on April 7, and an investigation ensued.

The boy was fitted with a wire and allegedly recorded Enden apologizing for her actions, prosecutors said.

She told the teen she "regretted it all these years," and that she was abused herself by her sixth-grade teacher, and perhaps was "mirroring" that experience, according to Assistant District Attorney Ken Applebaum.
Enden has been charged with multiple counts of rape and sodomy. She was booked and released on $100,000 bail.

Hmm ... Enden had an extended series of sexual episodes with the boy at her home and at his house, ending only when he graduated from the fifth-grade. It seems entirely possible that there may be other victims. After all, there was a void in her life after the boy graduated.

Mom Walks in Sex with Boy Case

(Cassopolis, Michigan) A 28-year-old married mother of four, Stacy Jeannette Filbert, pleaded guilty earlier this month to criminal sexual conduct for having a sexual affair with a 15-year-old boy. Yesterday, Filbert was sentenced to one year in jail, suspended.
"This defendant appears to be in a perpetual state of immaturity," Cass County Prosecuting Attorney Victor Fitz told a judge during Filbert’s sentencing hearing.

Fitz said Filbert, who is 28, has four children, who are in foster care.

In April, she took in the runaway teen, who court officials said was not blameless in the affair.
Filbert's attorney, James Miller, said she is trying to get her life in order. To illustrate, she just got her GED.

Circuit Judge Michael Dodge also gave Filbert three years' probation.

Frankly, I'm perplexed that court officials place blame on the boy. Unless Michigan has special laws divvying up responsibility for sexual crimes, it doesn't make sense. And the boy can't be blamed because Filbert is immature, I don't think. The "court officials" should explain themselves.

New Charges in Teacher-Student Sex Case

(Glenwood Springs, Colorado) In December 2006, English teacher at Elizabeth High School, Darcie Esson, was arrested for allegedly engaging in sex with a 17-year-old student, a school football player.

Esson was charged with felony sexual assault on a child by a person in position of trust and released on $25,000 bail.

Later in December, Esson retained the representation of high-profile lawyer Pamela Mackey who previously defended LA Laker basketball star Kobe Bryant in a rape case.

In the latest development, 33-year-old Esson faces new charges of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and alleged sexual assault with a pattern of abuse. Prosecuting attorney Martin Beeson refused to elaborate on the new charges other than saying they resulted from information uncovered on May 11th.

Esson has a court appearance scheduled for June 19th.

Darwin Award for Tagging 115,000 Volt Substation

(Santa Fe, New Mexico) An 18-year-old adventurous graffiti vandal, Aaron Vigil, died early this morning from injuries sustained when he spray-painted an electrical substation.

Euphemistically called a tagger, Vigil reportedly climbed over a 20-foot cement wall topped with razor wire and started spray painting the equipment. He was immediately greeted with 115,000 volts of electricity and, according to Deputy Police Chief Benjie Montano, the paint likely ignited.
When officers arrived at the substation, they found Vigil with his shirt off, his shoes and socks still on, much of the right side of his jeans burned off and his skin discolored, Montano said. He didn't know whether Vigil was conscious when officers and other emergency personnel arrived.

Pictures taken at the substation showed a scorched can of spray paint and a pair of burned and bloody jeans with much of the right pants leg missing.
Vigil was airlifted to University Hospital in Albuquerque and later flown to the Arizona Burn Center in Phoenix. However, there was little that doctors could do since Vigil suffered burns over 80 percent of his body.

Thinking human beings are reminded to heed "High Voltage" signs. Of course, thinking human beings know that already.

Baby Found Dead in Freezer

(Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) A 22-year-old local woman, Christine Hutchinson, was arrested and charged yesterday with abuse of a corpse after police found a frozen baby's body in her freezer. Police were alerted by a caller from Texas who is familiar with Hutchinson.
Officers were told of the 911 call around 12:30 p.m. saying there was "possibly a baby that was dead and was in a freezer in an apartment in Bloomfield," a working-class neighborhood several miles east of downtown, Pittsburgh police Cmdr. Thomas Stangrecki said.

Detectives found what they at first described as a late-term fetus in a brown bag in the freezer, police said.
Hutchinson reportedly told police that she gave birth to the baby girl on April 22nd, however, she never notified anyone.
Police do not know if the baby was alive when it was born, but said it was first wrapped in a plastic bag, before it was also placed in the brown bag that was packed into a Miller High Life beer box they found in the freezer, the affidavit said. Police did not say if Hutchinson told them why she put the baby in the freezer.

Lt. Daniel Herrmann said additional charges could be filed, depending on what an autopsy revealed Friday.
Consequently, police are continuing to investigate. Hutchinson is in custody with arraignment scheduled for later today.
Baby Burned in Microwave

(Galveston, Texas) A 19-year-old father, Joshua Mauldin of Hermitage, Arkansas, was indicted Wednesday for allegedly placing his two-month-old daughter in a microwave oven and inflicting third-degree burns. Mauldin is charged with injury to a child causing serious bodily harm, a crime punishable by a possible 99-year prison term upon conviction.
The infant was at Shriners Burns Hospital in Galveston Wednesday, in critical but stable condition. Doctors there took skin from the back of the child's head Wednesday, grafting it onto the left side of her face, which suffered third-degree burns.
Mauldin has previous arrests for battery and violation of a protective order. A high school acquaintance characterized Mauldin as the perennial loner. He was in Galveston staying at a beachfront motel along with his mother, his wife, and his infant daughter.

Mauldin was booked into the Galveston County Jail on $250,000 bond.
