Mayor Jane Campbell Wants Red-Light Cameras

(Cleveland, Ohio) Without any pretense, Mayor Campbell has proposed that cameras be installed at all Cleveland red-lights for the exclusive purpose of generating revenue. At a going rate of $150 per violation, the mayor has established a target quota of 150 fines per day to generate $6 million annually. Of course, having proposed an expensive environmental experiment last month, the mayor needs to be innovative in picking the public's pockets.

Frankly, I kind of liked the old days when politicians spoke of traffic law enforcement and public safety before they imposed confiscatory fees and fines. Nowadays, no bones about it, they just want your money and they don't care who knows.
