Russians Close Newspaper for Cartoon

(Volgograd, Russia) Because of the following cartoon, the Gorodskiye Vesti newspaper was closed permanently by the Volgograd City Hall.

Volgograd Cartoon
"We did not teach them to do it!"

There have been no public outbursts. Free press advocates and the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists condemned the action. Some believe that local officials are using the worldwide protests against cartoons as an excuse to close the newspaper in a naked gesture to ingratiate themselves with the Kremlin. President Putin has been slowly trending toward making freedom of the press a rarity.

Mac Powell at In The Bullpen has more.
