Woman Indicted for Embezzling $1.6 Mil

(Modesto, California) A 37-year-old local woman, Lisa Shae Allen, has been indicted by a federal grand jury of embezzling more than $1.6 million from her employer, G. Hedgecock Inc., a grading and paving company.
The 47-count federal grand jury indictment accuses Ms. Allen of mail fraud, money laundering, and criminal forfeiture.

Ms. Allen used an elaborate method to conceal her embezzlement from her employer, according to Assistant U.S. Attorneys Stanley Boone and Ian Garriques, who are prosecuting the case.
Allen apparently just spent the money on herself.

Curiously, the G. Hedgecock company must have deplorably weak financial controls if Allen could get away with $1.6 million before she got caught. You'd think that someone would have noticed after a couple hundred thousand turned up missing.
