In a story that delineates the criminal tactics and strategies of the Earth Liberation Front (ELF), the San Francisco Chronicle provides a couple interesting nuggets of information. One is that "mainstream environmental groups" do not want any association with the ELF.
"The ELF are not environmentalists. They are arsonists," said Carl Pope, head of the Sierra Club.Yet, this fact does not deter all support. The Chronicle continues:
However, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, whose members stormed a Victoria's Secret runway show last year, donated $1,500 to the ELF in 2001, according to the group's tax returns. There you have it. PETA funds the eco-terrorists.
The other interesting nugget concerns an characteristic possessed by most of the radical left special interest groups. That is the recruitment of idealistic and malleable young people and brainwashing them to the point that they become a cult. The article explains:
The recent case of an Oregon college student serving time in prison for a firebombing in 2001 opened a window into the ELF.It doesn't make a difference what the issue or complaint is. Whether it's Save-the-Whales, Pro-Abortion, Anti-War, Animal Rights, Anti-Nuclear, Save-the Rainforest, or the many others, they are all the same at the root. And, that is their hatred of the United States and freedom and their love of utopian socialism and communism. For those that are a little light on their history, a stated primary goal of socialism and communism is the overthrowing of the US government and the death of democracy and capitalism. It matters not to the proponents that history has proven that utopianism doesn't work. Sounds good, but it fails when tried. Also, when tried, a police state results and hundreds of thousands or millions of people are murdered.
Jacob Sherman, a student at Portland State University, said he fell under the spell of Michael J. Scarpitti, known as Tre Arrow, a forest activist who is now the FBI's most-wanted "eco-terrorist."
According to court documents, Arrow "groomed" Sherman and slowly introduced him to radical protesting. Sherman stopped bathing, refused to wear shoes and began eating a strict vegan diet to imitate Arrow.
Sherman was no James Bond of the forest: His father called the FBI after his son drove home reeking of gasoline the night three logging company trucks were attacked.
A concluding note about the PETA crowd is that, in my opinion, they are more radical vegetarian than pro-animal. They are on a mission to attain power by using economic extortion to dictate what people are allowed to eat. The radical vegans are a cult who want to take away the freedom to eat what a person chooses to eat. They have already made inroads in school lunch programs and fast food establishments.
