A flight attendant for Delta Airlines, Ellen Simonetti, was fired for having "inappropriate photos" in her personal blog.
"Inappropriate Photo"
Ellen Simonetti's blog, Diary of a Flight Attendant, is fairly typical of many blogs. Having snapshots included is also not unusual for blogs. What is out of the ordinary, though, is the fact that Ellen Simonetti is one helluva lot better looking than most bloggers.
According to this report, Simonetti believes she was treated unfairly by Delta and has filed a lawsuit claiming she was fired as a warning to other airline employees with blogs. It's additionally claimed that her firing was retribution for her efforts to unionize Delta workers. The lawsuit seeks unspecified monetary damages plus she wants her job back.
Also, a sex discrimination complaint was filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on the basis that male employees with blogs displaying inappropriate material are not punished.
Regarding the inappropriateness of her photos, I personally believe that they are several degrees tamer than what is normally broadcast on television.
[Update]
On 9/14/05, Delta Air lines filed for bankruptcy, seeking protection from creditors. The company cited high fuel costs and inability to compete with low-fare carriers. The impact of the bankruptcy filing on Simonetti's lawsuit and EEOC complaint is unknown.
