Teacher Absconds with Boy to Mexico

(Tompkinsville, Kentucky) A former eighth-grade teacher at Monroe County Middle School, Angela Comer (right), was arrested at a hotel in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, after allegedly running away with a missing 14-year-old Kentucky student. Comer (aka Angela Combs), 26, with her 4-year-old son and the 14-year-old boy were turned over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers by Mexican authorities at the Laredo International Bridge.

According to FBI spokesman Rene Salinas, the missing boy and Comer's young son were taken into protective custody while Comer was booked into the Webb County Jail. Tompkinsville Police Chief Dale Ford said that Comer faces a charge of custodial interference in Kentucky and she is also wanted on a federal warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Tompkinsville police believe there's evidence to indicate that Comer and the boy had been engaged in a romantic and intimate relationship. It's currently not completely clear what prompted them to flee to Mexico. The investigation continues. (H/T to reader Jason)
