KY Teacher Guilty of Sodomy
(Tompkinsville, Kentucky) In January 2006, a former eighth-grade teacher at Monroe County Middle School, Angela Renee Comer, was arrested at a hotel in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, after running away with a missing 14-year-old Kentucky student.
Comer (aka Angela Combs), with her 4-year-old son and the 14-year-old boy, was turned over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers by Mexican authorities at the Laredo International Bridge.
According to FBI spokesman Rene Salinas, the missing boy and Comer's young son were taken into protective custody while Comer was booked into the Webb County Jail. Tompkinsville Police Chief Dale Ford said that Comer faced charges of custodial interference and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Charges related to having sex with the boy were pending.
Today in Monroe County Circuit Court, 28-year-old Comer pleaded guilty before Judge Eddie Lovelace to one count of sodomy and one count of custodial interference. In accordance with a plea bargain, Comer agreed to serve 10 years in prison while the prosecutor dropped other charges. In a recent interview, Comer explained that she was glad to avoid trial which was due to start this week.
A sentencing date hasn't been reported.
