Teacher Gets 90 Days for Sex with Boy
(San Francisco, California) A 32-year-old former teacher at Luther Burbank Middle School, Nieka Arreola, was sentenced to 90 days in the county jail for seducing and engaging in sex with a 14-year-old boy. According to Deputy District Attorney Rebecca Wagner, Arreola started "grooming" the boy for sex starting at the age of 13. It apparently took a year. Ultimately, she and the boy were caught in February 2004 by the police as they were steaming up the windows of a car in McLaren Park.
In accordance with the terms of a plea agreement, Superior Court Judge Herbert Donaldson could have sentenced her to one year but decided not to. Arreola will, however, spend 90 days on house arrest after she is released from jail and she will have to register as a sexual predator. She also loses her teaching credentials.
In my opinion, the sentence is lenient but there appears to be some justification. Arreola has a newborn baby at home and maybe Judge Donaldson took that into consideration. I don't know. What I would like to know, however, is how her husband is handling the situation and whether it's been determined who the baby's father is. Hopefully, it's her husband.

I worked with her in 2005. We all found out after a disgruntled employee notified our CEO of her 2004 arrest. She had the nerve to go around work asking those of us she was close with to ignore any rumors we might hear (crying her eyes out as she pleaded). Another friend/co-worker had a friend in the SF DA’s office who told her the specific charges against her and that it was pretty open and shut. But Nieka got such a mild sentence because her father’s an attorney. The young man’s family was poor and couldn’t afford to take it any further than a criminal complaint.
If I remember correctly, he was Mexican as was Nieka’s husband. Both of her boys (at the time) looked like her husband.
