(Lakewood, Colorado) In July 2006, Michelle Leigh Tolar, an English teacher and counselor at Jefferson Hills Residential Treatment Center, a troubled youth facility, was accused of engaging in sex with a 16-year-old student. Tolar was charged with one count of sexual assault on a child by someone in a position of trust and one count of sexual assault.
In March, Tolar pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor and attempted sexual assault on a child.
Today, 27-year-old Tolar was sentenced to four months in jail with work release and 10 years of intensive sex offender probation. She will also have to register as a sex offender.
In court, Tolar apologized to her victim.
