Frog with Accent Gets Special Protection
(UK) The pool frog is northern European, known to inhabit England, Norway and Sweden. It is classified as threatened but of least concern.
Interestingly, a population of pool frogs at a secret location, created with 50 adults and juveniles and 100 tadpoles, has developed into a viable breeding community which local inhabitants believe croak with an accent.
As a result, the pool frogs with the northern British accent will be given extra special legal protection under the 1994 EU Habitats Regulations.
