Imagine the 2012 Olympics

Remarking on the arguably over-the-top opening ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Robert Koehler expresses apprehension.

I just hope that the British live up to their reputation for understatement during the 2012 games in London.

Otherwise, I fear that the opening ceremony will feature a spectacle of 1000 acrobats dressed like Shakespeare carting around a replica of Stonehenge on miniature steam trains while the HMS Beagle flows above the stadium with holographic finches and tortoises flowing in its electrolight wake.
