Gov. Richardson Has Divided Loyalty

From BorderFireReport:
William Richardson, governor of New Mexico and nominee for Sec. of Commerce in the incoming administration, has become a member of the Business Council of the “Universidad de las Americas” (”UDLA”) (the Puebla Univ. of the Americas) along with other Mexican business leaders.

The Council held a closed-door meeting and in an interview after the official photo, Richardson refused to speak about what benefits or perspectives his presence could have in the “UDLA” Council once he assumes the post of Secretary of Commerce, since he said that he would “furnish that posture later.”

The chancellor of “UDLA”, Luis Derbez, is an ex-Secretary of Foreign Relations of Mexico. Other members of the Council include prominent Mexican real estate and hotel CEO’s, the Human Resources V.P. for Volkswagen Mexico, the President and CEO of Wal-Mart Mexico, and other business leaders.

The Council plans to meet four times a year. On Thursday, Richardson also met with Jesus Ortega, the national president of the “Partido de la Revolucion Democratica” (”PRD”) (The far left political party which almost won Mexico’s presidential elections in 2006 )

“La Cronica de Hoy” carried a front page, top item report on Richardson’s meeting on Friday morning with the governor of the state of Morelos, who said “We have the possibility of dealing with a man such as Governor Richardson who loves and understands Mexico, it is especially good news for Morelos that he may be part of president elect Obama’s team.”

Richardsdon’s mother and his sister both reside in Morelos. The meeting between Richardson and Marco Adame, Morelos’ governor, was held “for the purpose of initiating a link and promotion agenda for this entity.”
Wow! At the link there is a cartoon making fun about Richardson being a Mexican in Obama's cabinet. Gov. Richardson is even closer to the Mexicans than I thought.

There is probably nothing wrong with that, but one has to wonder if Richardson's interests are in conflict. Seems so.
