Woman Gets No Jail in Child Sex Case

(Milford, Connecticut) A 19-year-old West Haven woman, Amanda Lizasoain, has been sentenced to 10 years probation for risk of injury to a child under 10 years old. The case stems from Lizasoain's alleged sexual contact with a boy, exact age withheld, under her care in January 2006.
Lizasoain, who was 16 at the time, was originally charged as a youthful offender, but later a judge ruled she should be tried as an adult.

Lizasoain was originally charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault and two counts of risk of injury to a minor, all felonies.

But concerns of how reliable the victim would be on the witness stand because of his age, and an apparent unwillingness on the part of his parents to have their child testify in open court, helped lead to the plea deal and suspended sentence, said State’s Attorney Kevin Lawlor.

“This disposition represents a compromise on both sides,” Lawlor said.
Lizasoain pleaded guilty per an Alford plea in which she doesn't admit guilt but agrees that enough evidence exists for a conviction. In addition to probation, Lizasoain was ordered by Superior Court Judge Eddie Rodriguez Jr. to register as a sex offender, undergo sex offender treatment and not to have contact with minors, except her own child and siblings.
