DC Comics will collaborate with Kuwait-based Teshkeel Comics and produce stories where Muslim Superheroes known as "The 99" appear together with American icons like Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.
A few Muslim Superheroes
The anticipated release of the new comic series is within a year.
The 99 series was started in 2006 by Naif Al-Mutawa, who wanted to portray Islam in a more tolerant light.Excuse me but besides the fact that a non-religious Muslim comic superhero makes absolutely no sense, it's even harder to reconcile Superman's tagline, "Truth, justice and the American way," with the frequently-heard Muslim tagline, "Allahu akbar, Death to America."
It features 99 different superheros based on Muslim figures and values, but they are not overtly religious so that the comics can be read by people of all faiths.
Any stories with even a remote connection to the real world would seemingly have the Muslim superheroes as the deadly enemies of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, et al.
