(New York) Former figure skating champion Nicole Bobek, 31, was arrested last week for alleged involvement in a drug distribution ring. Bobek has been charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
Bobek, who won the women’s U.S. figure skating title in 1995, was arrested last week in Florida and brought to New Jersey to appear in Central Judicial Processing Court via videolink Monday from the Hudson County Jail in Kearny, N.Y.Bobek is being held on $200,000 bail. If convicted, she faces a possible 10 years in jail.
The 31-year-old, who has homes in New York and Jupiter, Fla., is accused of being involved in a northern New Jersey drug ring.
Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio told the Jersey Journal, “She played a significant role in this operation. She was actively involved in the upper echelon of this ring."
DeFazio added that the crimes of which Bobek is accused took place in New York and that twenty other individuals were arrested in connection to the drug ring.
