Carolina Mom Accused of Child Abuse

(Thomasville, North Carolina) A 23-year-old local mother, Patricia Lynn Wiles, has been accused of child abuse after opiates were found in her 9-month-old son's system.

Wiles faces charges of felony child abuse and possession of Oxycontin.

Police did not say how much of the opiate was found in the baby’s system. Officials said the drugs did not get in the baby’s system through breast-feeding said police.

Authorities said the child was released from the hospital and is now in the care of his father.

Police said Wiles was placed in the Davidson County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond and has court planned for Sept. 18.

No other details of the investigation were reported.
