Woman Fatally Stabs Her Two Children

(Augusta, Georgia) A 22-year-old mother, Jeanette Hawes, has been arrested for repeatedly stabbing her two young children in their chests and killing them.
An employee at the Texaco Food Mart on Lumpkin Road in south Augusta told police that she heard screams coming from the restroom after the woman walked inside with her two children, ages 3 and 1, about 2:30 p.m.

The employee knocked several times, asking if everything was okay and if the woman needed to come out and talk to her.

"Then all of a sudden, everything was quiet," said Richmond County Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen.

The employee called police. They forced their way in and found the woman, Jeanette Hawes, on the floor. She was holding a steak knife and was covered in blood, authorities said.

One-year-old Jordon Hawes was dead at the scene. Shakayla Hawes, 3, was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Hawes faces two counts of murder.

Mothers killing their children is not uncommon and I'd suggest that part of the reason is that treatment of the crime by the justice system is way too lenient. As I understand, both Andrea Yates and Lashuan Harris are not in jail and will be celebrating Christmas this year without their eight murdered children.
