(Paris, Texas) A 34-year-old substitute teacher with the Chisum ISD, Shanda Swanner, was arrested last week for allegedly engaging in improper relationships with two male students, ages 16 and 17.
(Broward County, Florida) A 38-year-old local woman, Berlinda Dixon-Newbold, got mad at her boyfriend so she set fire to his crotch. Sheldon Gonzales said he was asleep on his couch Tuesday night when he was suddenly "awakened by a burning sensation in the crotch of his pants," according to a report from the Broward Sheriff's Office.Dixon-Newbold was booked into custody with bail set at $6,500.
Standing over Gonzales was girlfriend Berlinda Dixon-Newbold, cigarette lighter in hand.
Gonzales quickly realized the bottom of his shirt, which was lying over his crotch, was on fire.
(Barberton,. Ohio) A 20-year-old woman, Lachana Williams, has been arrested for allegedly trying to steal a baby from Summa Barberton Hospital on Wednesday. Police said Williams admitted to staging a fake pregnancy and even told her family that she was about to give birth. She also told police she was checking out hospitals to try and steal a baby, according to police.Williams was booked into custody at the Summit County Jail.
Barberton police believe Williams also tried to gain access to the maternity wards at Akron Children’s Hospital and Akron City Hospital.
"A Swansea bar serving a cocktail drink called a 'Suicide Bomber' has apologised after being accused of "insensitivity."
The advert in the window of The Lounge in Wind Street advertises the drink with a mock image of a person wearing an explosive-packed vest.
The director of the Swansea Bay Race Equality Council said it went beyond a poor joke and wants it taken down.
The bar said they did not mean to cause any offence or to upset anyone. The cocktail is part of a promotion for bomb-themed drinks, alongside 'Skittle Bomb', 'Cherry Bomb' and 'Melon Bomb'.
Taha Idris, director of Swansea Bay Race Equality Council, said: "I just can't believe that anyone could be so insensitive with all that is going on in the world.

Authorities say the girl left her home to stay with the couple beginning in late June. After abuse allegations surfaced, authorities said the girl told them that she loved both Schroer and Olson and that they told her they would all be able to live together when she was old enough, and that both Schroer and Olson gave her promise rings. She told authorities she’d engaged in sexual activity with both Schroer and Olson.Olson will be sentenced in February 2011. Schroer's case remains to be adjudicated.
Authorities said Olson had admitted that there had been sexual activity between her and the girl, between Schroer and the girl, and among the three together.
When interviewed in jail, Olson said that in the previous three weeks there were only three or four days they did not have sex with the girl.
(Saginaw County, Michigan) Former Freeland High School teacher Marcie L. Rousseau has pleaded guilty to 21 criminal sexual conduct charges in Saginaw County and was sentenced to four to 15 years in prison.James A. Brisbois Jr., a Saginaw Township attorney, said the 16-year-old male who was Rousseau's victim was a top student who pursued Rousseau for sex.[…]The fact that Rousseau had sex with a 16-year-old boy about 100 times in two different counties, according to the victim, likely encouraged the court to view her crimes as something more than a momentary lapse in judgment. "He courted her. He brought her flowers," Brisbois said. "The punishment does not fit the crime. It's way too severe."
Under the deal arranged by the prosecutor and Rousseau's attorney, the former Freeland High School teacher plead no contest to three criminal sexual conduct charges.Formal sentencing is scheduled for December. Note that Roussseau also faces prosecution in Saginaw County. A January 2011 trial date is planned.
Five additional counts of CSC were dropped.
Those charges stem from an affair Rousseau is alleged to have had with one of her 16-year-old students last year.
Wednesday in court the judge briefly spoke about the sexual encounters Rousseau had with that student at a Midland hotel and along a rural road in the county.
The assistant prosecutor working on the case says the family of the 16-year-old victim in this case is onboard with the plea deal.
"To keep a 16-year-old boy out of court so he doesn't have to come here to a room full of strangers and talk about this, it is a positive thing," said Midland County Assistant Prosecutor Angelina Scarpelli.
(Monroe, North Carolina) A 27-year-old teacher at Parkwood High School, Melissa Bitz, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly engaging in sex with an 18-year-old student.
"The federal government sued a suburban Chicago school district Monday for denying a Muslim middle school teacher unpaid leave to make a pilgrimage to Mecca that is a central part of her religion.
In a civil rights case, the department said the school district in Berkeley, Ill., denied the request of Safoorah Khan on grounds that her requested leave was unrelated to her professional duties and was not set forth in the contract between the school district and the teachers union. In doing so the school district violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by failing to reasonably accommodate her religious practices, the government said.
Khan wanted to perform the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia which every adult Muslim is supposed to make at least once in a lifetime if they are physically and financially able to. Millions go each year.

The pamphlet provided detailed explanations about how to perform “safe” oral sex and contained a list of vulgar sexual expressions.
Andrew Byette, director of the local school board, defended the teacher’s actions, saying the flyer was marked as appropriate for teens, according to QMI Agency.
However, CATIE official Veronique Destrube said the flyer was designed for 18-year-olds, not 13-year-olds.

(Quincy, Massachusetts) Last month, a 16-year-old male teen, Delvonte Tisdale, allegedly breached security and entered the landing gear well of a US Airways Boeing 737 just before takeoff at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Only last week, Norfolk County District Attorney William Keating said the investigation pointed to Tisdale avoiding airport personnel and hiding in a commercial airliner.The Transportation Security Administration is investigating the apparent security breach.
Keating, who will take a seat in Congress next month, called for a full-fledged review to prevent someone, such as a terrorist, from gaining access to jetliner in the way evidently Tisdale did.
Investigators found grease on Tisdale’s clothing and are testing it to see if it matches grease used on two aircraft they examined at the Charlotte airport.
On Friday, police searching the Blue Hills Reservation near Brierbrook Street found a pair of dark Nike Air Force sneakers and a red shirt that matched descriptions given to police by Tisdale’s family. The items had similar grease stains.
Keating has said forensic tests have been unable to confirm that hand prints found in the wheel well – in places where hand prints would not normally be found – were made by Tisdale’s hands.

(Pasadena, Texas) A 19-year-old local female, Kistin Cordova, has been accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl. The girl, who was 13 at the time of the incident, told police she and Cordova met through friends at a skating rink in Pasadena as "Jordan Cordova," according to court records.Cordova was booked in to custody at the Harris County Jail.
She told police they exchanged phone numbers and began communicating over the phone before Cordova, an 18-year-old student at Sam Rayburn High School at the time, came to spend the night at her house in August 2009 where the first instance of sexual assault allegedly occurred.
The next occurrence of sexual assault allegedly occurred in November when the girl, who later told police she was unsure if Jordan was the suspect's real name, went to an apartment complex in Harris County and spent the night with Cordova, court records state.
(Berkeley, California) Late last night, the Berkeley City Council backed off its effort to give PFC Bradley Manning a medal.In a 8-0 vote with one abstention, the council tabled the resolution brought by the city's Peace and Justice Commission, mostly because council members said they were reluctant to proclaim a hero someone who has neither admitted to nor been convicted of leaking the information.One councilman wondered whether giving Manning an award would help convict him. Frankly, I contend what the city of Berkeley does really does not matter in the case.
(Tampa, Florida) A 30-year-old IT worker at the Suncoast Community Health Center (SCHC), Patricia Marie Fowler, was found guilty by a jury and sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for computer system hacking. According to trial testimony, Fowler had been fired by SCHC on March 13, 2009, for insubordination and failing to follow the orders of her supervisors.Fowler was also ordered to pay $17,243.01 in restitution and to serve three years of supervised release after completing confinement.
On March 17, SCHC employees discovered that a computer intrusion had occurred and that damage had been done to the SCHC computer system.
From March 17, 2009 through April 1, 2009 numerous unauthorized intrusions were made into the SCHC computer system which resulted in the deletion and movement of files from the computers of SCHC executives, changing of administrative account names and passwords, removing access to infrastructure systems, changing pay and accrued leave rates on the employee payroll system, and the compromise and lockout of the firewall used to secure the SCHC network.
On July 15, 2009, Fowler was interviewed by special agents of the FBI and after initially denying any culpability, she admitted to committing the computer intrusion crimes against SCHC and provided the agents with the password to the firewall which she had changed.

(West Jordan, Utah) Major development in the Andrea Billingsley case.A 3rd District judge on Monday overturned the conviction of a former aide at West Jordan Middle School who was found guilty of sexually abusing two students in November.It ain't over 'til it's over, eh?
In a surprise ruling, Judge Robert Adkins lifted the guilty verdict against Andrea Billingsley, 31, just four days before Billingsley was scheduled to face a sentencing of up to life in prison in Adkins’ courtroom.
But the case against Billingsley won’t be thrown out all together.
It has been set before a new judge and could be retried. A decision on when and whether there will be a second trial has not been made — and perhaps won’t be made until a series of potential appeals from both prosecutors and defense attorneys are sorted through.
Adkins ruled in favor of Billingsley’s defense attorneys, who filed motions contesting her conviction based on evidence defense should have been allowed to present to the jury regarding the juvenile victims’ "past history," said attorney Rhome D. Zabriskie.
The young men were 15 and 16 when the events took place and one of them testified in court that Billingsley had shown the teen pictures of her naked breasts before touching his biceps and chest, slipping her hand in his pants, fondling him and ultimately performing oral sex on the student. A few weeks later, a friend had revealed to him a message from Billingsley, asking him to call her, according to court testimony.A sentencing date is to be determined.
The teen and a friend met up with Billingsley, who had e-mailed additional naked pictures of herself to the teen, and the three went to a local park in her vehicle.
Billingsley and both teenage boys ended up in the back of the vehicle, where she engaged in various sexual acts with both of them, according to their testimony. The second teen told of one encounter involving all three individuals.
Police believe the sexual encounters occurred sometime between May and July. Roberts said investigators believe Billingsley would meet up with the boys on school grounds and take them elsewhere for a sexual relationship.Billingsley was booked into custody at the Salt Lake County Jail.
Billingsley was a part-time employee without needing certification during that time and was not asked to return due to lack of funds for the position, said Jordan School District spokeswoman Melinda Colton.
"The man then recruited two work colleagues at his factory and then went to the house of the victim," said police.Seifert said he felt it was his duty as a father to stop Genscher.
"The man was forced to remove his trousers and, fully conscious, he was castrated. The severed testicles were taken away by the perpetrator."
The man was close to bleeding to death but managed to call police. His life was saved but he remains a eunuch for life.
