Julian Coman reports on the 2004 political plans of Ralph Nader in the UK Telegraph:
Unimpressed by muted Democratic opposition to the war in Iraq, and unhappy with the party's timid campaigning tactics, the 69-year-old veteran activist is now contemplating a repeat performance. Privately, he has told the American Green Party that he is prepared to run again on a "strong liberal message."
This is considered bad news for the Democrats, but it was not unexpected. Mr. Nader's candidacy in 2000 has been blamed by some to be a primary cause of Al Gore's defeat by George Bush. In closing, the Telegraph states:
When Mr. Nader does announce his candidacy, he is sure to face a barrage of criticism from Democratic supporters at the hustings. Mr. Nader himself has no regrets.
"This country just does not belong to two parties with everyone else having to shut up and get in line," he said.
I think it is good that Mr. Nader enters the race for the presidency and I'd like to see more loonies participate. It results in additional fragmentation of loyalty and support among the smorgasbord of liberal candidates in the Green and Democratic parties. Also, having Nader running is good for entertainment value.
He and his minions would have the US shut down all business, get rid of all modern inventions, live in the forest eating organic plants while living in harmony with nature as he oversees a bankrupt socialist government. No corporations, no SUVs, no commercial meat business, no electricity unless it's solar or wind powered, more programs for the poor, dismantling of the national defense, banning all guns, legalizing all drugs. Yes! Nirvana the Nader way.
Jeez! Anyone with even a pissant's sense of humor has got to laugh at this lunacy.
