NM Teacher Gets Ankle Monitor for Rape of Boy - Updated

(Albuquerque, New Mexico) On Friday, former teacher Kristy Sanchez-Trujillo, 35, was sentenced to community custody for rape and child molestation of a 13-year-old male student.
State prosecutor Nicholas Marshall asked that the former teacher be given the maximum on the plea deal, which was five years, for the for the 2009 rape of her then-13-year-old student.

The then-33-year-old married mother admitted she took the boy to the Petroglyphs National Monument and had sex with him on a couple occasions in her SUV.

"The fact that the parents entrust these people who care for them, this individual violated that trust and so it was our hope that she was going to serve a period of incarceration," Marshall said.

The judge handed down a 24-year sentence but dismissed all but 364 days. The former mid-school teacher will serve that one year at home on an ankle monitor.
District Judge Reed Sheppard said Sanchez-Trujillo's gender did not influence his sentence. He said it therefore it must be so.

Eco-Friendly Self-Chilling Beer Can

(Surrey, England) It's called the Chill Can.
The world's first self-chilling can is to go on sale in the UK - which can turn lukewarm beer or fizzy drinks ice cold in two minutes.

All you need to do to get an ice-cold drink is press a button at the base of the can.

Pressurised carbon dioxide is released from a capsule, chilling the can by 15 degrees centigrade. The can was shown off this week, and is expected to be on sale later this year.
The can took 20 years to develop.

Carolina Teacher Sex Party Case - Updated
[Previous 9/24/10 post]
The national media has picked up the story which is now being called the "Sex Party Case." Here are some fresh developments.
Lindsay resigned from her job Monday.

Grabarkiewicz was released from the Spartanburg County Detention Center Wednesday morning after posting a $25,000 bond and agreeing to home detention, according to the Spartanburg Herald-Journal.

She was also served with divorce papers by her husband of 17 years, Eddie Grabarkiewicz, who has asked for "complete care, control and custody" of the couple's three children, ages 12, 9 and 7, and child support, his lawyer told the paper.

Lindsay remains in jail on a $50,000 bond.
If the allegations prove to be true, it must be said that these two teachers irreparably screwed up their lives.

Carolina Teachers Accused of Doing Youths
[Previous 9/21/10]
(Spartanburg, South Carolina) Two female teachers, Sarah Jane Lindsay, 42, and Audrey Beidleman Grabarkiewicz, 44, were arrested yesterday for allegedly engaging in sex with teenagers while providing them with alcohol and marijuana during parties at their homes.

Sarah Lindsay, a teacher at Boiling Springs Elementary School, faces nine counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and criminal sex with a minor between 11 and 14 years of age.

Audrey Grabarkiewicz, a preschool teacher at Lake Bowen Baptist Church, faces 10 counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She reportedly engaged in sex with some of her victims but they were over 16 years of age. Consequently, she wasn't charged for the sex. I don't understand.

A bond hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

She is also accused of using $1061.80 of the money for repairs to her personal vehicle and of making multiple cash withdrawals.
Moulthrop was booked into custody and later released on $50,000 bond. A court appearance is scheduled for July 9.
Greenie logic hard at work

On the one hand the writer below tells us that CO2 levels in the Miocene were similar to levels today and on the other hand she tells us that the margins of Antarctica were green and hence obviously warmer. Doesn't that show that the high temperatures back then were NOT due to CO2 but rather to some other (solar? vulcanism?) influence? You would never guess it from the HuffPo narrative below

Note that the NASA press release says that "Warm conditions during the middle Miocene are thought to be associated with carbon dioxide levels of around 400 to 600 parts per million (ppm)". Thought to be? and "around"? In other words, the researchers below were just guessing about that

It may be hard to imagine, but the outer edges of Antarctica were once green, luscious and teeming with vegetation, a new study has uncovered.

Scientists at NASA, the University of California and Louisiana State University examined plant fossils taken from sediment cores beneath the Antarctic ice shelf and found that between 16.4 million and 15.7 million years ago, Antarctica was much warmer and rainier than previously thought. In fact, the continent's climate was similar to that of present-day Iceland, reaching temperatures of up to 45 degrees Fahrenheit.

The paper was published in the most recent issue of the journal Nature Geoscience.

When studying the sediment extracted from below the ice, the researchers found large quantities of pollen and algae -- an indication of abundant plant life. They also examined the plant-leaf wax from the sediment cores and were able to determine details about the water the plants drank when they were alive.

The greening of Antarctica occurred during a period of global warming called the Miocene period -- tens of millions of years after the last dinosaurs roamed the earth. Although it was long before the days of modern humans, during this time, the planet was home to mostly modern-looking species -- including apes, deer and horses.

The findings of the study have staggering implications for what increasing levels of carbon dioxide in the earth's atmosphere and a changing climate could mean for the planet in the not-so-distant future.

Levels of carbon dioxide during the Miocene era were around 400 to 600 parts per million (ppm) -- not much higher than the modern-day level of 393 ppm. According to the authors of the study, if CO2 levels increase at the same rate they are today, they will reach the amounts seen during the Miocene period by the end of this century.

Could Antarctica really become a green paradise before the end of our lifetimes? It's possible, according to Sarah J. Feakins, assistant professor of earth sciences at the USC Dornsife College and lead author of the study.

"Just as history has a lot to teach us about the future, so does past climate," she said. "What this record shows us is how much warmer and wetter it can get around the Antarctic ice sheet as the climate system heats up."

In the global warming that occurred during the Miocene era, the western part of the Antarctic ice sheet retreated, and the eastern part contracted, the scientists found. Those changes followed a period of substantial ice growth, however, and Earth's landmasses and ecosystems were substantially different from what they are today.

Although the underlying goal of this study was to better understand the impact of rising CO2 levels, only time will tell what the effects of a rapidly changing climate will be on not only Antarctica, but the rest of the planet.

President Obama and President Putin

From Pravda, a report from journalist Xavier Lerma:
"I think that the missile defense problem will not be solved if Obama is reelected or not," Putin. President Vladimir Putin has been aware of the fact that the US has been and will continue pointing missiles at Russia and surrounding it with military bases. He knew that the promises from Reagan to Gorbachev were broken in the 90's. He never expected to get treated better than the US treated the Native Americans. Even if Obama promised the moon Putin would not have believed him. So, why the meeting?

Two hours alone together and I'm sure Putin broke his smile and terrified Obama with facts Obama thought surely were known to him and his CIA. Revealing to Obama, "We know your plans, where your military and agents are located. WW3 will be on your head and legacy". Obama was faced with only saying he was not in charge and he had no choice. Cold hard facts and laying their cards on the table with the entire world at stake must have made 2 hours seem like 2 years to Obama.

Putin told the press,

"The United States has been following the path of creating its own missile defense for more than one year, and I do not see anything that could change its approach,"

He said the European Union, Russia and the United States should all cooperate in developing a missile shield:

"This means all three participants would jointly be building that system, and would be able to jointly assess threats, manage that system and make decisions on its use,"

He knows that will not happen but he continues to offer solutions to the US. Putin had already said a few days before the meeting, that an arms race had begun and that Russia had no choice. He can talk to other countries like China and Iran and receive cooperation from them but not the US government. What is it about America that makes it look down their noses at other nations?
Nothing friendly about the Obama-Putin relationship, I suggest. It's of concern that WW3 is even mentioned.

Obamacare Upheld

America Snookered

From today's ruling:
Members of this Court are vested with the authority to interpret the law; we possess neither the expertise nor the prerogative to make policy judgments. Those decisions are entrusted to our Nation’s elected leaders, who can be thrown out of office if the people disagree with them. It is not our job to protect the people from the consequences of their political choices.
The political choice of Obamacare was originally sold with blasting assertions that it is not a tax. Now it is.

Apparently "bait and switch" has become an acceptable tactic in the political realm and, sadly, the Supreme Court smooches in agreement.
How Mayor Bloomberg Keeps Cool

(New York City) Mayor Bloomberg requires his official SUV be kept cool in the summer sun. Rather than cooling with the vehicle's AC when parked, a room air conditioner is mounted in the SUV's side window with a cord trailed to a building outlet.

Supposedly, Bloomberg is helping save the planet.
Airbus in Alabama

(Mobile, Alabama) A new Airbus manufacturing facility expects to create at least 1,000 jobs.
Airbus will announce Monday in Mobile its plan to build A320 aircraft at the city's Brookley Aeroplex, opening a new era of jet production in Alabama and giving the European company its first production site on U.S. soil.

Multiple company, state and local officials confirmed that an agreement was in place to bring Airbus to Mobile, and that company president Fabrice Bregier was scheduled to announce the project at a 10 a.m. news conference at the Mobile Convention Center.

Details of the assembly plant -- including the construction timeline, projected employment and capital investment -- remained confidential. But a company source with direct knowledge of the project said it would produce the A320neo (the acronym stands for "new engine option"), a single-aisle jet designed to replace its best-selling A320 narrowbody.
Airbus will receive more than $100 million in tax breaks.
I'm Farming and I Grow It

(Assaria, Kansas) Salt of the Earth, I suggest.
The truth is Greg Peterson can’t stand LMFAO’s song and video, “Sexy and I Know It.”

It was playing on a Manhattan radio station one night in late May when he and some friends had gathered at a local Sonic to unwind as his junior year at Kansas State University came to an end. That song came on, and he groaned.

But as the song kept playing, the ag-journalism major – gifted in music and on a mission to spread the word of Kansas agriculture – sipped his milkshake and was inspired when the chorus played. He switched the words, “I’m Sexy and I Know It,” to “I’m Farming and I Know It.” The second time the chorus came on, he thought, “No, I’ve got one better: ‘I’m Farming and I Grow It.’ ”

Before long, he had a great parody. Now he has a video that has gone viral on YouTube and Facebook.
Good stuff.
Anti-Israel journalist Gwynne Dyer compares climate skeptics to Nazis

With all the usual charm of the Green/Left. Dyer's expertise is in military history. Perhaps he should bone up on some physics too. He might even learn the melting point of ice and how far away the polar glaciers are from that

There was no law against genocide in the early 1940s; it only became an internationally recognised crime after the worst genocide of modern history had actually happened. Similarly, there is no law against ”ecocide” now. That will only come to pass when the damage to the environment has become so extreme that large numbers of people are dying from it even in rich and powerful countries.

They are already dying from the effects of environmental destruction in some poor countries, but that makes no difference because they are powerless. By the time it starts to hurt large numbers of people in powerful countries, 20 or 30 years from now, most of the politicians who conspired to smother any substantial progress at the Rio+20 Earth Summit will be safely beyond the reach of any law. But eventually there will be a law.

Virginia Woman Sentenced for Molestation

(Suffolk, Virginia) Former youth ministry worker Elizabeth Lee Beckett, 23, was sentenced this week to three years in prison followed by five years of probation as a result of pleading guilty to molestation charges.
Beckett, of Hampton, pleaded guilty in February to five counts of taking indecent liberties with the child.

According to a complaint filed by police, Beckett exposed herself to, fondled and had oral sex with the boy several times between 2009 and 2011. Beckett told investigators the contact was consensual.

Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Nicole Belote said the incidents began in July 2009 when the boy was 13 and Beckett was 20. She explained Beckett was a close friend of the boy’s family who served as a regular baby-sitter for the family.

The relationship continued after Beckett became a ministry intern working with the church’s youth group. The victim was a member of the group, Belote said.
Beckett was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
Al Gore: The "Dear Leader"

America's very own Kim Jong Il

Al Gore. Just his name warms our hearts with love and admiration. He loves the environment. He cares about the environment. He’s doing everything he can to protect the environment.

He has won so many major awards for his concern about the planet. Wikipedia’s Al Gore article states:

"Gore has received a number of awards including the Nobel Peace Prize (joint award with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) (2007), a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album (2009) for his book An Inconvenient Truth, a Primetime Emmy Award for Current TV (2007), and a Webby Award (2005). Gore was also the subject of the Academy Award-winning (2007) documentary An Inconvenient Truth in 2006. In 2007 he was named a runner-up for Time’s 2007 Person of the Year."

Ah… isn’t that sweet? Why, there’s no one who cares more about the earth than Al Gore!

In addition to that article, wikipedia has a whole entire other article called Environmental activism of Al Gore, which is devoted to telling us just how much Gore cares about the Earth. He must be an incredibly wonderful caretaker of the planet, to have an article such as that!

But wait! Certain information about Gore has been repeatedly deleted from both of those articles. Gore’s supporters have made sure that readers will never learn what Gore truly thinks about the environment.

This information has been added to both articles multiple times, but it always get erased. Editors who continue to add these things to the articles get accused of “edit warring,” and if they continue to put the information into the articles, they get blocked from editing for 24 hours. If they continue adding the information after their 24 hour block expires, they get blocked for a week, then they get topic banned from editing any Gore related articles for three months, and then they get banned, permanently, from editing any of wikipedia. If they then create a new account, they get accused of “sock puppeting,” and the new account gets permanently banned.

Because of this repeated and persistent censorship, those two article on Gore are puff pieces which ignore the things that Gore has actually done to the environment.

Here is the content that Gore’s supporters have repeatedly censored from those two articles:

Gore has been repeatedly accused of environmental hypocrisy. Gore has been criticized for owning a private jet.

In July 2008 when Gore gave a speech on global warming in Washington D.C., he was criticized for bringing a fleet of two Lincoln Town Cars and a Chevy Suburban SUV, and for letting one of the vehicle’s engine and air conditioner idle for 20 minutes.

Gore has been criticized for owning stock in Occidental Petroleum, a company which drilled for oil in ecologically sensitive areas. He was also criticized because a zinc mine on his property had polluted a nearby river.

In 2010, Gore admitted that his 1994 tie breaking vote as President of the Senate in support of ethanol subsidies was actually bad for the environment, and that he did it for political reasons.

Despite Gore’s repeated insistence that global warming is causing sea level to rise, in 2010, he spent $8,875,000 on an ocean-view villa in Montecito, California.

A report by Science and Public Policy Institute pointed out 35 alleged errors in Gore’s movie An Inconvenient Truth.

Gore was criticized for stating that the temperature of the earth’s core was “several million degrees,” when in fact the actual temperature is several thousand degrees.

Gore’s Nobel Peace Prize award was criticized because Gore had beat out Irena Sendler, who had been nominated for saving the lives of 2,500 children and infants during the Holocaust.

Oklahoma Woman Accused of Lewdness with Boy

(Bartlesville, Oklahoma) A 24-year-old local woman, Betsy Ann Brashear, has been accused of luring a 15-year-old boy into a tanning booth, stripping off her clothes and kissing him.

Brashear faces a charge of lewd acts with a minor under 16.
The boy, who is 15 years old, accompanied his mother to Colaw Gym on Thursday, June 21, 2012 about midnight. The boy's mother told police Brashear was flirting with her son, so she asked other gym members to help her keep an eye on them.

A man who was working out later told the boy's mother that he saw the teen go into a tanning booth with Brashear, an affidavit says.

According to the affidavit, the mother pounded on the door and her son answered, but Brashear was attempting to hide in the room. The boy's mother then dragged Brashear, who was only wearing a sports bra, out of the room, the document says.

When she noticed Brashear was partially nude, the mother said she let Brashear go because there were several men watching.

To avoid further confrontation with the boy's mother, Brashear stayed inside the tanning booth until police arrived, the affidavit says.

The boy told investigators it began when Brashear asked him to spot her on the weights, then talked him into going into the tanning booth with her. Once inside, Brashear stripped off her clothes from the waist down and began kissing the boy, he said.
Brashear was booked into custody at the Washington County Jail and released Friday on $20,000 bond.
Sex Scandal at Lackland Air Force Base

(San Antonio, Texas) Big sex scandal at one of America's military training centers has led to sexual misconduct charges against several male instructors.
Allegations that male instructors had sex with, and in one case raped, female trainees have led to criminal charges against four men. Charges against others are possible.

The most serious accusations surround an Air Force staff sergeant scheduled to face a court-martial in July on charges that include rape and multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault. The other three defendants were charged with lesser crimes ranging from sexual misconduct to adultery. All of the defendants were assigned to turn raw recruits into airmen in eight weeks of basic training.

A two-star general is now investigating alongside a separate criminal probe, which military prosecutors say could sweep up more airmen. Advocates for female service members and members of Congress have started taking notice.

"It's a pretty big scandal the Air Force is having to deal with at this point," said Greg Jacob, a former Marine infantry officer and policy director of the Service Women's Action Network. "It's pretty substantial in its scope."
Chances are that the Lackland scandal will become as notorious as the Navy's Tailhook incident.

The names of two male instructors have been released: Staff Sgt. Luis Walker and Staff Sgt. Peter Vega-Maldonado.
A reasonable use of the Swastika evokes heartburn

One understands the heartburn but the swastika was an Eastern symbol of blessing long before the Nazis used something similar.

Calling the symbol a Nazi one is however historically incorrect. The Nazis called their symbol a "hooked cross" (
Hakenkreuz) not a Swastika. Swastika is an Indian term adopted by the British

I in fact have a swastika just inside my front door. It surrounds an image of Ganesha -- the Indian elephant god -- to stress that Ganesha is benevolent. The Indians living with me in my house approve

Beachgoers were stunned on Saturday when a plane flew over Long Beach Island and along the Jersey Shore, towing a Nazi flag. On the sign was written the word ‘Swastika’, showing the anti-Semitic symbol intertwined with the Hebrew Star of David.

It was spotted as far north as Manhattan and prompted several calls from concerned viewers to the Long Beach Township Police Department.

Officers believe the plane was sponsored by an organisation connected to the Raelian Movement, which preaches that earth life was scientifically created by the Elohim, a species of extraterrestrial beings. In a press release the Raelians claimed responsibility for the banner, adding that Saturday was their 3rd Annual Swastika Rehabilitation Day.

The group asked spiritual groups who use the symbol to stand up and show their support, insisting that its true meaning is misunderstood.

But the Jewish Community Centre of Long Beach Island is skeptical and has demanded answers. ‘We're trying to find out - what are their intentions?’ President Don Pripstein told the Manasquan-Belmar Patch.

Wine Improves Quality of Life

According to a study performed by Boston University:
A couple of glasses of wine each day improves your quality of life, researchers say.

A study finds that those who drink in moderation - no more than 14 drinks a week and no more than three a day for women and four a day for men - have better overall scores than those who abstain completely.

The quality of life was measured using the Health Utilities index, which looks at factors including dexterity, emotion, cognition and mobility.

Researchers from the Boston University School of Medicine studied 5,404 Canadians at age 50, and continued to observe them over a follow up period.
I suggest that recommended wine consumption be specified in fluid ounces, not glasses.

Police will have to destroy mugshots of innocent people following a landmark case brought by a 15-year-old. The boy went to court after being told his image would be held until he reached 100 – even though no charges were laid against him.

The High Court ruled yesterday that retaining photographs of suspects who have never been charged was a breach of their human rights.

Police forces will now have to trawl through their records deleting images, including those of people cleared at trial.

The teenager from Peckham, South London, was arrested on suspicion of rape in April 2009 but no charges were brought when a witness failed to confirm an offence took place. When he asked to have his details removed he was told the mugshot could be retained until he reached the age of 100. He was 12 at the time.

The second claimant was a cyclist from Chelsea accused of assaulting a police community support officer who stopped her riding on a footpath in April 2007.

The 60-year-old, who was described as of good character, had DNA samples, fingerprints and photographs taken but the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to charge her with any offence. When she complained, the Metropolitan Police refused to delete her record.

The force’s policy, which is based on the Home Secretary’s code of practice, is to retain mugshots for a minimum of six years, although this can be extended indefinitely. Scotland Yard argued that it was necessary to keep the photographs to prevent crime and disorder.

But Lord Justice Richards said the policy drew ‘no adequate distinction’ between those who are convicted and those who are either acquitted or not even charged.

The judge, sitting with Mr Justice Kenneth Parker, concluded: ‘I am not satisfied that the existing policy strikes a fair balance between the competing public and private interests and meets the requirements of proportionality.

‘In my judgment, therefore, the retention of the claimants’ photographs in application of the existing policy amounts to unjustified interference with their right to respect for their private life and is in breach of Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.’

The judge granted the force a few months to revise their policy. Home Secretary Theresa May now has two weeks to lodge an appeal on the ruling, which has implications for all police forces. The courts have already ruled that it is unlawful to keep innocent people’s fingerprints and DNA indefinitely.

But Lord Justice Richards said the Met would not have to delete details of the teenage boy’s alleged offence from the police national computer.

Yesterday John Wadham, general counsel for Equality and Human Rights Commission, which backed the test case, said: ‘There is no good reason why the police should hold on to information about people who have not committed any crime.’

A Home Office spokesman said: ‘We are urgently examining the implications of today’s ruling.’

MUST support homosexuality

Rob Schlein is a homosexual Republican politician in Texas who thinks that there are bigger issues than homosexuality. Leftists are outraged

As journalists, it is difficult to understand how you reconcile the headline “TX party platforms evolve on LGBT issues” with a platform that continues to state: “We affirm that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society and contributes to the breakdown of the family unit.”

If Mr. Schlein does not understand that this statement is totally unacceptable, then you, your headline writers, and your copy editors certainly should.

At a time in which the national and state Republican parties have ramped up their hate rhetoric not only against the LGBT community, but also against women and people of color, no responsible publication, gay or otherwise, should be promoting the sad self-hate of a shill like Mr. Schlein.

Home Grown Jihadis in Switzerland

(Geneva, Switzerland)
“Suspected jihadis continue to use Switzerland as a base to actively support Islamist groups by placing propaganda and incitement to violence on the web,” FedPol said in its annual report published on Thursday, newspaper Tribune de Genève reported.

A new specialist department, formed at the beginning of 2011, has been looking into the websites and their operators.

A preliminary investigation conducted in Germany also found that a Swiss convert to Islam had planned over the web to carry out a terrorist attack involving explosives against an American institution in Germany. The man was eventually released from police custody due to lack of evidence.

The report said that the fact the man identified was Swiss proved that “not only people with immigrant backgrounds could be supporters of jihad,” newspaper Tages Anzeiger reported.

The Federal Police are working closely with the Swiss Intelligence Services who confirmed that they have identified more than ten trips from Switzerland to jihadi training camps overseas.
Not good news, and since jihadis have been roaming around Europe for at least the last decade or so, the Swiss seem a little slow on the draw.
PA Mom Supplies Drugs to Daughter, 12

(Middleburg, Pennsylvania) One might logically argue that mother-of-two Brandi Baumgardner, 38, is a one-woman crime wave.

Baumgardner has been in jail since last December stemming from failure to appear on burglary and conspiracy charges.
According to court records, Baumgardner conspired with her son, now 20, and a 17-year-old male juvenile, to steal the drug from the home of Charlene and Jason Kline on July 19, 2010. She told the juvenile how to enter the home and where to find the Fentanyl patches under a bed where Jason Kline was sleeping.

The juvenile removed one of the patches from the box and left the rest with Baumgardner. Later that night at his Beaver Springs home, he ingested a portion of the drug and nearly died of an overdose, court records said, bringing the crime to the attention of the authorities.

Following Baumgardner’s arrest on those charges, her young daughter was sent to Clear Vision, a residential treatment center in Montgomery.

In March, Baumgardner pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit burglary for the July 2010 crime and was sentenced to 11 months to 23 months, with credit for 93 days she’d already served, followed by five years of probation.

While serving time, Baumgardner was charged with felony endangering the welfare of children and misdemeanor corruption of minors, for allegedly supplying her daughter with narcotics, including crack cocaine and Fentanyl patches, which they shared.

The alleged victim, now 16, told counselors at Clear Vision last August that she began smoking marijuana with her mother when she was 12 and her drug abuse escalated, with her mother injecting her with narcotics about 200 times.
Bail was set at $50,000.

Accused Bomb Plotter Amine El Khalifi Pleads Guilty

(Alexandria, Virginia)
A U.S. judge on Wednesday ordered a Moroccan man to be held on charges that he planned a suicide bombing attack against Congress, believing he was working with al Qaeda militants when in fact his contacts were undercover agents.

Amine El Khalifi, 29 and an illegal immigrant, was arrested last week and charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction against U.S. government property, intending to detonate a bomb and to shoot people.

He was arrested just blocks from the Capitol and had been the subject of a lengthy undercover investigation by the FBI who said the public was never in danger because he was monitored and only given weapons that were inoperable.
On Friday, Amine El Khalifi pleaded guilty to one count of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction. Sentencing is scheduled for September 14. A prison term of 25 to 30 years is expected.

Ancient Arctic Melts

Source:
German-led team of scientists said on Thursday that the Arctic went through ice-free periods of extreme warmth over the past 2.8 million years, based on a new analysis of deep sediment in Russia.

The international team, headed by Martin Melles of the University of Cologne, Germany, drilled into an iced-over lake formed by a meteorite impact on the Chukchi Peninsula in Siberia for the longest sediment core ever collected in the terrestrial Arctic.

Since the meteorite struck an area of Lake El'gygytgyn that was not eroded by glaciers, the sediment record reaches back nearly 30 times further in time than ice cores from Greenland that cover the past 110,000 years.

The sediment reveals periods of extreme warmth that show the polar regions are much more vulnerable to change than previously thought, and are difficult to explain by greenhouse gases alone, said the study in the journal Science.

Scientists have long known that the Arctic went through climate cycles, but the latest research shows some of these warm phases were "exceptional," with temperatures four to five degrees Celsius warmer and 12 inches wetter than during normal interglacials, the study said.
So much for man-made global warming.
Colorado Momma and Two Boys

Lynne Collette Freeman

(Greeley, Colorado)
Shortly after bonding out of Weld County Jail on allegations of sexually assaulting a teenage boy, a Greeley woman was rearrested after a second alleged victim came forward.

Greeley police Sgt. Susan West said Friday that police re-arrested Lynne Collette Freeman, 38, at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday. The accuser in the second instance is 16, West said.

Freeman was originally arrested Wednesday after a 14-year-old boy told them she had sexually assaulted him while he visited Freeman's daughter at her house in April.
Freeman was booked into custody with bond set at $50,000.

Woman Accused of Exposing Sexual Organs

(Miami, Florida) Understanding this story is disturbing.
A 400-pound woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon after being found by police sitting in the buff on a bus bench in Fort Lauderdale, police said

Patricia McCollum, 52, was charged with exposure of sexual organs in public and was initially being held on a $100 bond. McCollum has a long record list of petty offenses, according to court documents.

McCollum, currently homeless, was found nude on a bus bench at 3900 N. Ocean Blvd and claims she was just trying to change her clothes, according to the arrest report filed in the case.
Frankly, I suggest that there is nothing sexual about a naked 400 lb. woman.

Kentucky Woman Stuck

(Monticello, Kentucky)
A woman at a Kentucky Walmart got into a sticky situation this week when she sat on a toilet seat covered in super glue.

The unidentified woman was using the restroom at the Monticello, Ky., store, when she found that she was glued to the seat and couldn't get up, NBC affiliate LEX 18 reported. She was trapped on the toilet for at least an hour, according to the television station.

Police are investigating the incident.

"We're looking at it. Right now, I wouldn't be prepared to say which way it was - accident or intention," Monticello Police Department Chief Ralph Miniard told WAVE News.
Accident…!!!…???
"Vagina" a bad word?

The reference does appear to have been an egregious one

"A female Democratic state representative in Michigan said Thursday that she has been silenced by her Republican colleagues after she uttered the word 'vagina' while criticizing a slate of bills that would restrict female reproductive rights.

Michigan State Rep. Lisa Brown (D) made her comments during a Wednesday debate on proposed legislation that critics say could effectively ban abortions in the state.

'I have not asked you to adopt and adhere to my religious beliefs,' she said. 'Why are you asking me to adopt yours? And finally, Mr. Speaker, I’m flattered that you’re all so interested in my vagina, but no means no.'"

House Republican leadership later confirmed to Michigan Radio that they felt her comment violated decorum, and that she would not be called upon in future debates.

Republicans, who hold a powerful majority in the Michigan House and Senate, passed the bills with the help of just six Democrats in a vote Wednesday of 70-39.

Leftists do appear to be rather fond of referring to reproductive terms. "Get your rosaries off my ovaries" is another egregious usage sometimes directed at Catholics.

What's For Dinner?

It is said:
The Best, and Worst, in Kabul Military Dining
By ANDREW SAND

I’ve risked my life in Afghanistan for a plate of French cheese. While not as arduous as serving in rural Afghanistan, the prisonlike conditions on Kabul bases — no family, long hours, repetitive food and confined spaces — often drive service members to extremes to escape the pressure and keep up their spirits.

The premier military dining facility in Kabul. Dashing Frenchmen sport oversize berets. A 30-foot replica of the Eiffel Tower looms over plates of creamy Camembert and smoky Gouda.

French chefs serve up authentic French fries, crisp and hot. And fresh sole with a lemon cream sauce in a landlocked country — how did they do that?

At this quaint French base, meals end sweetly, with rare deployment joy found in the delicate bûche de Noël. All in all, an exquisite dining experience that brings a bit of Paris to Kabul.
"Rare deployment joy"! I won't mention the politically correct crap that the US military has to endure.

Kentucky Teacher Goes Home in Sex Case - Updated

(Shelbyville, Kentucky) Special education teacher Shannon Hirchert, 42, has been sentenced to probation for seven years for engaging two male students in a bit of lascivious "special education."
Investigators said the incidents took place in the fall of 2010 in different locations, including after hours at Collins High School.

Hirchert was also accused of sending lewd photographs to the boys' cellphones.

As part of her sentence, she'll be placed on the sex offender registry.

"She can't teach, she's given up her Kentucky teaching license She can't seek a teaching license in any other state. She can't have unregistered emails, no social networking. All those things are very important in sex offense cases," said Commonwealth Attorney Laura Donnell.

Hirchert will be required to complete a sex offender treatment program and she's been banned from having contact with children.

Get Ready

(Sinai Peninsula)
Israeli security officials have grown increasingly anxious about the security situation in the Sinai since Mubarak's ouster. Continued political turmoil in Egypt, weak policing in the Sinai and tough terrain have all encouraged Islamic militant activity in the area. The mountainous desert now harbors an array of militant groups, including Palestinian extremists and al-Qaida-inspired jihadists, Egyptian and Israeli security officials say. The tumultuous situation surrounding Egyptian elections, in which Islamic groups made a strong showing, has added to Israeli unease.

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak told Army Radio that there has been "a worrisome deterioration of Egyptian control" over the Sinai. Barak said he expected the winner of this week's presidential elections in Egypt to honor the country's international obligations - an apparent reference to Egypt's 1979 peace treaty with Israel. The Muslim Brotherhood has said it would respect the historic peace accord but that it would also seek modifications.

Vice Premier Shaul Mofaz, a former defense minister and military chief, said he hoped Israel could conduct a security dialogue with the Egyptians and demand more forceful policing in the Sinai.

"No doubt Sinai has become a security problem," Mofaz told Army Radio. "Today's incident ratchets it up a notch."

A suppressed truth

Greenies mainline on ice-core records -- but are those records on their side? Some findings have just leaked out in New Zealand which say not

Al Gore’s movie and book, “An Inconvenient Truth” convinced John Key and many other New Zealand politicians that catastrophic climate change was real and happening in their time, thanks largely to a now discredited temperature graph known as “the hockey stick”.

But now a real temperature graph using ice core data from Antarctica shows just how much the public and politicians were conned. The Law Dome ice core study has been languishing unpublished for more than a decade, and the picture below, featuring global temperatures on the vertical axis and the years in AD on the horizontal, shows modern temperatures are cooler than they were a thousand years ago.

How, you may ask, does an ice-core at -70 below in Antarctica measure global temperatures? Certain Oxygen isotopes are more prevalent in warmer climates, and less prevalent in the cold, and after adjusting for the known location scientists can establish – from when the oxygen was captured in the ice – how warm the circulating global atmosphere was at the time.

In comparison, the discredited “Hockey Stick” tries to suggest modern temperatures are hotter than ever.

German Leftists Seek 100% Tax

Katja Kipping

(Berlin, Germany)
The new leader of Germany's socialist Left party has called for a 100 percent tax on any income above €40,000 a month, because beyond that point, "there's no additional life enjoyment anyway."

"No-one needs more than 40 times the minimum income," Left party leader Katja Kipping told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung newspaper, in a pre-release published Saturday.

"If there is any additional income beyond that, then it just goes into influencing political decisions through bribery – or destructive financial speculation," she said.

(Lawrence, Kansas) Two adults were arrested this week for allegedly mistreating children.
Adolfo Gomez, 52, and Deborah M. Gomez, 43, are charged with two counts of child abuse and five counts of child endangerment in connection to the case.

Police say that when officers arrived on the scene on Wednesday, they found two children ages five and seven years old, with their hands and feet bound with duct tape. Their eyes were also blind-folded.

Authorities believe the family had been living in the Wal-Mart parking lot since Monday.

“We determined there was a male standing near two children who were both bound,” said Sgt. Trent McKinley with Lawrence Police. “Their arms were behind their backs and there faces were partially covered.”

The family of two adults, three teens and the two younger children stopped at the Wal-Mart in Lawrence on Monday after experiencing mechanical problems with their Chevrolet Suburban as they were traveling to Arizona from Chicago.

[Previous 3/20/12 post]
(New York City) Earlier today, New York City schoolteacher Tara Driscoll, 33, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor sexual misconduct involving a 16-year-old male student.

As a result, Driscoll faces probation and loss of her teacher's license.
Prosecutors said the boy's mother found out about the encounter and confronted her son, who admitted it, Nassau police said.

"We believe it to be a one-time deal," Nassau police spokesman Det. Vincent Garcia said at the time of the arrest. "She picked him up on the day and they drove" to the motel after having arranged to meet in Queens -- not his home and not at school, Garcia said.

Two law enforcement sources familiar with the case said at the time that video of the encounter was taken on the teen's cellphone. The video along with an interview with the victim and phone records were used as evidence against Driscoll, authorities said.
Formal sentencing is scheduled for May 22.

Australia: It's ok to swear at the boss, says Labor party lapdog

"FAIR Work Australia" is an quasi-judicial body staffed by crusty old unionists appointed by a Leftist government

FAIR Work Australia has ordered the reinstatement of an employee who was sacked for telling his boss to "get f ... ed".

Security guard Craig Symes was sacked from Linfox Armaguard last year after he told his manager to get f ... ed, complained about the "f ... ing roster" and then aggressively poked a notice board - all while carrying a loaded gun.

Symes, who had worked with the Brisbane firm since 2000, cracked during a monthly meeting last December after having a fight with his wife before work. "He was frustrated with his wife and, in hindsight, should not have come (to the meeting)," FWA heard.

He abused manager Aryn Hala after being assigned to a faulty armoured van and stormed out. Symes later apologised in writing but was sacked the next day.

FWA ruled Symes' behaviour amounted to misconduct but found his dismissal was harsh.

While finding swearing at a person was "of a different character" to swearing at an object, or as an adjective, FWA Commissioner Helen Cargill said it was "also relevant to consider the evidence that the respondent's workplace is one in which bad language is commonly used and in which ... employees may have received mixed messages about such use".

She said the swearing was not "overheard by other employees which could have undermined Mr Halas' authority".

Ms Cargill ordered the company reinstate Symes with back pay - less six weeks pay as a penalty.

Underskirt Story

(Conway, Arkansas) A 55-year-old math teacher and tennis coach, Michael Rush, has been accused of following pulchritudinous babes around the local Walmart and taking pictures from underneath their skirts.

Rush has been charged with misdemeanor harassment.
Conway police say they had received information from employees of the Walmart on Skyline of a man following women around the store and reportedly holding a notebook near their lower bodies as they were shopping.

Reports say Rush allegedly concealed an iPod with video recording capabilities in the notebook.

Police say he would pretend to be looking at a shopping list when he would duck down and film underneath women's skirts. Officers say none of the women were aware of his actions. In certain cases, the women were accompanied by children.

Police say he took recordings on at least four separate occasions, often on Sunday afternoons.
Rush was booked into the Faulkner County Jail and released on bond.
Warming causes cold! You can't lose when you are a Warmist

Charles Greene of Cornell has concluded that:
"Greene’s paper describes a key determinant of the Northern Hemisphere’s winter weather: the Arctic Oscillation. When that is in its positive phase, a strong set of winds called the Polar Vortex forms. These winds help trap Arctic air masses at the pole, keeping the cold out of the mid-latitudes. This also allows the jet stream to take a more direct route around the globe, moderating the weather.

But over the last few years, the Oscillation has been strongly negative; in fact, in 2010, we saw a record for the most strongly negative period we’d ever recorded. During this phase, the winds of the Polar Vortex weaken, allowing the cold Arctic air to intrude or mix into the air at lower latitudes. As a result of this, Greene told Ars two things happen to the jet stream: it gets substantially weaker, and it tends to meander widely from north to south as it traverses the globe. This can lead to the severe chills the US and Europe have experienced over the past several winters, but the meandering jet stream can also draw warmer southern air north, as happened in the US this spring.

I would go further. These cold outbreaks “use up” the cold pool, allowing the atmosphere to recover from the winter more rapidly. So an extraordinarily warm spring somewhere in the middle latitudes is doubly likely.
