Ananova.com is reporting statements made by Professor Robin Murray of the Institute of Psychiatry in London in which he cites several studies of long term cannabis use that found an increased risk of mental illness.
Speaking at the Royal College of Psychiatrists' annual conference in Edinburgh, he said: "In the last 18 months a number of studies have confirmed that cannabis consumption acts to increase later risk of schizophrenia. This research must not be ignored."
Professor Murray delineated studies conducted in Sweden, Holland and New Zealand as the basis for his contention, adding that "these findings had been largely ignored."
Throughout the years, I've had personal contact with some folks that were heavy dope smokers and I always thought they were just extra dumb or extra stupid. Maybe they were just crazy. Or maybe they were dumb or stupid long enough to become crazy. Either way, I would never want or put any long term dope smoker in a position of responsibility.
