WORLD BEARD and MOUSTACHE CHAMPIONSHIP

Check out a few of the entrants and you'll see the pride a man can have in his facial hair. They are flocking to Carson City, Nevada, for the World Beard and Moustache Championships (WBMC) being held this weekend.
A panel of distinguished judges will determine which beards and moustaches in seventeen separate categories merit their owners the championship trophies and the coveted world champion titles. Special prizes will also be awarded to the youngest contestant, the contestant who traveled the farthest to attend, and the people's favorite.

This will be the first time this truly unique, off-beat public event will take place in America. Previous championships have been held in Norway, Sweden, and Germany. Future world championships will be in Berlin in 2005 and London in 2007.

Over 100 foreign contestants are expected from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, England, Italy, Sweden, Norway, the Ukraine, Turkey, and Mexico, including numerous former world, European, and German champions, . . .
Festivities will be Oktoberfest-style, complete with beer, bratwurst, oompah music.

Championship Director Phil Olsen stated that there is no specific category for women but bearded ladies are welcome to compete with the men.
