(via Outside The Beltway) Former US Senator Paul Simon of Illinois died today. Yesterday he underwent heart surgery at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Simon was a bespectacled, slightly rumpled man with a strong reputation for honesty, a politician who began disclosing his personal finances in the 1950s.I couldn't encapsulate my impression better. As a conservative, it's not frequent that I have anything nice to say about a Democrat. Paul Simon was a well-respected, professional public servant. He exuded honesty and goodwill. America needs more politicians just like him, regardless of party.
Senator Simon was 75.
