According to Natalie Pona of the Winnipeg Sun, more Manitobans consistently die from suicide than automobile accidents.
In Manitoba in 2002, 121 people were killed in vehicle-related accidents, said Johanna Abbott, the director of the chief medical examiner's office. That same year, 151 Manitobans committed suicide, she said. And it's not just in Manitoba that the high suicide rate exists. In 1999, in excess of 4000 Canadians killed themselves and 23,000 more were hospitalized due to suicide attempts. It's considered a national problem.
My take is that there is nothing funny about this subject so I'll refrain from making light of it.
