Cats Used To Control Rats

The northern Mexican State of Chihuahua is importing cats to try and control the rat population. Health officials want to send several hundred felines to Atascaderos, an isolated farm village in the rugged Tarahumara mountains, a region where it's estimated there are about a half million rats. One health official, Roberto Gallegos, stated:
"So far we don't have any cats, but an animal control agency already promised to donate 50."
A large population of cats will surely eradicate the rats. Unfortunately, they'll also eradicate the songbird population. Be careful what you wish for.
