Romanian Journalists Kidnapped in Iraq

(Baghdad, Iraq) According to a BBC report, three Romanian journalists are missing and feared kidnapped in Baghdad. Marie Jeanne Ion and cameraman Sorin Dumitru of Prima TV, along with Romania Libera newspaperman, Ovidiu Ohanesian, had contacted coworkers to say that they had been abducted.

Aljazeera.net is reporting that Prima TV news editor, Dan Dumitru, received a hurried call from Marie Jeanne Ion prior to the disappearance and heard her desperately pleading with the kidnappers.

"I heard Arabic, English and Romanian words shouted," he said.

"I heard her imploring the attackers not to kidnap them because they come from a poor country which won't be able to pay the ransom."

The three had earlier completed an interview with interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi.
