The official BRAC list has been released and Jeff Quinton is transcribing it from .pdf format. Below, I've transcribed the list for Ohio, divided into three groups.
TO CLOSEAfter reviewing the entire list, it's notable that the Pentagon is closing finance and accounting facilities throughout the nation in an obvious consolidation effort. It also appears that an across-the-board reduction in satellite reserve centers, affecting almost every state, is planned. As an example, six of nine closures announced for Ohio are reserve centers.
Army National Guard Reserve Center - Mansfield
Army National Guard Reserve Center - Westerfield
Defense Finance and Accounting Service - Dayton
Mansfield Lahm Municipal Airport - Air Guard Station
Navy-Marine Corps Reserve Center - Akron
Navy-Marine Corps Reserve Center - Cleveland
Parrot U.S. Army Reserve Center - Kenton
U.S. Army Reserve Center - Whitehall
Leased Space - OH
TO GAIN
Armed Forces Reserve Center - Akron
Defense Supply Center - Columbus
Rickenbacker International Airport - Air Guard Center
Toledo Express Airport - Air Guard Center
Wright Patterson Air Force Base
Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport
TO REALIGN
Defense Finance and Accounting Service - Cleveland
Glenn Research Center
Rickenbacker Army National Guard Bldg 943 - Columbus
Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport - Air Guard Station
One proposed closure I thought was quite interesting was the Submarine Base in New London, Connecticut. Personally, I was taken aback, thinking the place had more value.
