(El Paso, Texas) As you read this story, think about trying to stop flood waters using a shovel.
From the El Paso Times:
Last week, Customs and Border Protection officers at El Paso's bridges caught 25 fugitives, 19 people who made false claims of citizenship, 22 people who used papers that belonged to others, three people using counterfeit documents, two people who tried to avoid inspection and three people who overstayed their visas, agency officials said Friday.Authorities also stopped 17 drug smuggling attempts and 16 attempts to smuggle foods and plants. And, all this happened in one week at an official border crossing.
If these numbers are multiplied by the weeks in a year times the number of border crossings along with the addition of an estimate of the number of crooks that don't get caught, the result is disturbingly high. It's beyond me how this is allowed to continue. The ship of state won't sail smoothly for very long with a big damn hole in the hull.
