The Anchorage Daily News has a dramatic report of the helicopter rescue of Larry Csonka from a disabled ship in the stormy Bering Sea.
The Hall of Fame football legend was returning from a hunting trip to a remote Aleutian island when the sea "swelled and gale force winds began to blow with pounding rain." After a harrowing night being battered by the storm onboard the Augusta D, Csonka and five others were plucked one-by-one up to a Coast Guard helicopter flown from Kodiak, 600 miles away. The ship was abandoned to King Neptune and Davy Jones locker.
