Three Balls and You're Out!
(Waterbury, Connecticut) This case is disturbing. A 56-year-old man pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of risk of injury involving sexual assault for repeatedly having sexual relations with a little girl. Robert Stillman submitted his plea pursuant to the Alford Doctrine where he acknowledges that the prosecution has enough evidence to convict him. According to the plea agreement, he must serve three and one-half years in prison plus 15 years probation.
Initially, Stillman denied the accusations against him but changed his mind when the little girl, who was 8 and 9 when the assaults occurred, provided some damning evidence. Apparently, Stillman has a rare birth defect where he was born with three testicles. The little girl knew he was packing a spare plum and told investigators. They checked. Bada-bing-bing-bing! Stillman immediately accepted the plea rather than face a jury where he could have received life in prison.
What's disturbing is that Stillman is getting only three and one-half years in the slammer. The girl was a little child and he repeatedly sexually assaulted her over a period of two years. The prosecution did not do its job in punishing the pervert nor in protecting the public. It's a safe bet that Stillman will be victimizing another child three and one-half years from now.
