Sex Abusing Ex-Con Teacher Wants Custody of Kids

(Upper Marlboro, Maryland) A former Sligo Middle School English teacher, Catherine Peay, was sentenced to three years in prison in 2001 for having sex with a 12-year-old male student, Carlos Andres Perez. Peay (aka Catherine Turner), 40, having completed her stretch in the joint, has filed papers seeking a divorce from her estranged husband and to get custody of her two boys who currently live with their father in New York.

Tragically, 12-year-old Carlos, Catherine Peay's sexual prey, has died under circumstances which his mother believes were suicide brought on by psychological pressures resulting from Peay's molestation. Carlos' mother, Ena Cubillos, earlier this year won a civil judgment against Peay (Turner) for $1.7 million. Cubillos hasn't been paid.

I would imagine that any court would be reluctant to award child custody to a decertified teacher, convicted child sexual abuser, and registered sexual offender, but judges tend toward giving mothers deference in custody cases.
