Australia Convicts Terrorist Under New Law 

(Melbourne, Australia) Former Melbourne taxi driver, Joseph (Jack) Terrence Thomas, converted to Islam and attended an al Qaeda military training camp in Afghanistan. Afterwards, al Qaeda gave him funds, a return plane ticket, and a false passport.

Subsequently, 33-year-old Thomas was arrested, tried and convicted of terrorism offenses under the new Australian counter-terrorism law. He was sentenced to five years in prison.
